New file hosting service offers unprecedented safety and privacy via user-side in-browser encryption, pledges commitment to openness
Jan 18 2013 – A team of innovators lead by Alexander Halls, a young internet entrepreneur, has launched a radically novel file hosting service.Unlike traditional file hosts, http://megareload.se offers extremely strong AES-128 user-side encryption right in the browser, thus ensuring that at no point does anyone at megareload.se get to learn the contents of the user’s file. The file’s encryption is password-based, and the password data always remains on the user side, ensuring that only the user and the people whom he told the password will be able to retrieve the contents.
With their motto of “Safe. Conscientious, Palatial”, the Megareload team has committed itself to providing users not only with safety and “palatial” ease of use, but maximum possible assurance of trustworthiness, which can only be achieved by maintaining a truly open relationship with the userbase.
“Since we decided to commit ourselves to a conscientious relationship with our clients, we have come to realize a very important thing: to feel really safe about your files and your privacy, theoretical security isn’t enough – crucial, sure thing, but alas not sufficient. The devil is always in the details, implementation details. And, being committed to a conscientious relationship with our users, we have decided to take an unprecedented step in the direction of openness. On the day Megareload goes out of its usability beta, we shall publish the client-side component’s source code and relevant documentation so that users will be able to ascertain that not only is our solution theoretically bulletproof, it’s practical implementation is also rock solid. And, in our commitment to openness, we will release the source code of all our standalone software, such as download managers and mobile platform apps, under open-source licenses” says Alexander Halls, founder of Megareload.
Because megareload.se is also determined to make its service extremely comfortable and easy to use, which is to say, palatial, they decided to start out with a limited usability beta.
“We’re building an innovative file locker service, but that means we’re doing things differently, and we want to be absolutely, positively confident that our users are comfortable with the way things work here. The only way to do that is to get as much user involvement as possible, get as much feedback as possible, and then analyze it and adjust yourself accordingly” Alexander said.
”And since our relationship with our users is conscientious to the core, Megareload team will show our gratitude to the first adopters for participation in public usability beta and feedback they provide, by staging a lottery among the beta users with 100 winners getting a lifetime platinum account. Those who don’t win the lottery will get a free regular account and have all their data transferred there. However, there is a very strong possibility that we will stage more than one lottery among our first adopters”
The brave start-up was created by Alexander Halls and several close friends. They were disconcerted by the turmoil surrounding the file hosting business and the harassment innocent users often face. Alexander Kononov, CTO/CIO of Megareload: “Several months ago, we came together, and decided that the world needs really safe file hosting services, services organized in a way that completely prevents the owners and personnel from peeking into user’s files, user’s personal life. Day later we acquired the megareload.se domain and set out to create a file locker which, by very design, has absolutely no ability to betray the user’s trust. And I think we have it. We have just such a service. A new era of truly safe file lockers is beginning. We’re its harbingers”
While the service is still in free usability beta, numerous people have already signed up for a megareload.se account, and many are now becoming Facebook fans as well.
While somewhat geared towards more privacy-conscious users and security-minded companies which face security challenges while facing the need to share data among professionals in BYOD settings, Megareload’s customer-friendly attitude and focus on comfortable user experience will appeal to a far more broad audience of modern people with causal, day-to-day file hosting needs.

Loop Melody | Rachel Kaye and Alexander Kori Girard
With foreground and background largely erased, each artist leaves it to the viewer to choose the topsy-turvy direction. Here's one storyline. Here's another. Here's an endless number of storylines vibrating on the surface. Kaye's granular drawings are seasonal, even hourly, depictions of light and intimacy. They blanch in the yellow California summer. They fold in, purple and blue, at twilight. The borders disappear as her shapes meander across one another,…
CODY HOYT + ALEXANDER KORI GIRARD | OCTOBER 22
In Cody Hoyt and Alexander Kori Girard’s upcoming show at Johansson Projects, patterned forms and organic geometries come together in an unique exploration of functional permanence and mystic communication.
Cody Hoyt’s ceramics are rigorously drawn, curiously angular, and intricately patterned, creating brutalist organic “vessels” that question the need for function over form. The forms are constructed from patterned slabs, which are themselves assembled from smaller individual pieces; a highly individualized framework…
