My Bear Jeff Doubles Teddy Bear Donations

– Rachel Cohen, Chief Bear Officer of My Bear Jeff, announces the firm will double the number of teddy bears for donation on National Giving Day, Tuesday, November 30, 2021. For each bear purchased, two will be provided to a local or national organization serving children in trauma.
“The need is so great for children to have something special to hold on to during a difficult time in their lives, and the demand continues to grow. Our goal is to put a teddy bear into the hands of as many kids as possible,” said Cohen.
Cohen said one of her nonprofit partners, Children’s Mercy in Kansas City, is doing an inspiring job of making creative use of the bears as they help dozens of patients feel safer and more secure. “They use them on their helicopter, ambulances and fix wing plane to calm young patients especially when they are without their parents or a caregiver.”
According to Cohen, the hospital also uses the bears in their operating room to have a friend during surgeries, and for CT scans in the radiology department to help the patient hold and lay still.
“The hospital’s Child Life team even uses teddy bears for casting demonstrations with a cast placed on the bear to ‘look’ like the patient. It helps the child understand the procedure. Often the bears are wearing their very own patient bracelet.”
Cohen recently started My Bear Jeff based on her own trauma she faced at age four. Born with a heart defect, she went through a rare procedure and it appeared her life expectancy was going to be short.
The night before her surgery her family even took family photos of her because they did not know if she was going to live through the experience or face long term issues.
Now 30 years-old, Cohen says what helped get her through it, and inspired her life, were her teddy bears. “It energized me to start this organization. Even though I did not know much about toys, stuffed animals, or manufacturing, I was able to find great partners to help me with the process. The response has been simply tremendous.”
My Bear Jeff utilizes a buy one-give one model which enables purchasers to buy a specially made teddy bear and, at no extra cost, provides a bear to a child in need through a variety of charitable organizations, doubled for GivingTuesday. Customers have different options of purchasing one bear and donating it directly to children to a pre-determined child’s related charity.
The bears are specially designed with a red heart on their chest and a name tag for children to name their own bear.
The National Day of Giving, or Giving Tuesday, is an opportunity for people around the world to come together through generosity in all its forms by sharing acts of kindness and giving their voice, time, money, goods and advocacy to support communities and causes. It is celebrated in the US on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
