Diverse Tresures Make Their Mark At Kaminski Auction

Kaminski Auction’s Fine Summer Estate Auction held on July 14, 2007, attracted collectors from across the region to bid on a diverse array of consignments. The auction, held under the tent at Kaminski Auctions in Beverly, Massachusetts, showcased an eclectic mix of antiques, fine art and garden sculpture. Bidders arrived in droves to participate in this exciting outdoor auction and were rewarded with ideal weather and a collection of unique treasures from estates across Massachusetts’ North Shore and beyond. Nostalgic highlights of the day included a rare Grape-Nuts tin sign advertisement, circa 1900 (Est. $1,500-2,500) that realized $4,025 after a feverish round of bidding. Also of note was a Louis Vuitton travel toiletry case (Est. $400-$600). This timeless piece of luggage, which contained a sterling and crystal cologne atomizer, proved highly desirable and realized a final price of $1,840.

Predicted to be one of the headliners of the auction, a 19th Century sterling silver Tiffany & Co. oval pedestal bowl (Est. $2,500-$3,500) did not disappoint. The bowl, complete with an ornate repousse design and a gold vermeil inner bowl, was intensely coveted and realized an impressive $4,887.

One of the most exciting lots of the day was a remarkable Quincy Tahoma (1920-1956) painting, Indians on Horseback Hunting Buffalo (Est. $2,500-$3,500), which sold to an eBay Live bidder for $4,887. Tahoma, a Navajo painter and muralist who lived and worked in Santa Fe, New Mexico, also played a critical role in World War II as a Native American Code Talker. His work is highly sought after and raised more than a few paddles at this auction.
