Press release from: Kaminski Auctions

(West Hollywood, CA) - Kaminski Auctions’ Los Angeles Estates Auction, held on October 3, 2007 in West Hollywood, was a smashing success. This exciting auction took place at the Hollywood American Legion Post 43 and attracted bidders from across the region and online to compete for a distinguished array of consignments. This event marks Kaminski’s second California auction since the launch of their San Diego operations last Spring. Already an established presence in Massachusetts, Kaminski Auctions solidified their role as a bi-coastal auction house with this triumphant West Coast auction. (All prices reflect a 15% buyers premium)

The auction included a diverse array of Master works of art from the 17th through 20th Centuries, 19th and 20th Century furniture, Tiffany silver, pre-Columbian artifacts, fine oriental rugs and other collectibles and decorative accessories. Consignments hailed from estates in New England, Southern California, Tijuana and from the estate of Juan Ramos Robledo of Mexico City. The illustrious Robledo estate, originally housed in a 30,000 square foot French mansion, included a multitude of rare and fine furnishings.

Highlights of the day included a Hans Thoma (1839-1924) painting, Springtime, which realized $28,750. Thoma, a German painter, printmaker and museum director, began his career painting clock-faces. His paintings, which demonstrate an affinity for nature and a unique understanding of human form, are now highly sought after at auction.

Another highlight was a pair of fine mid 19th Century Sevres porcelain covered urns. These ornate urns stand 44 inches tall and have an intricately painted woodland scene with a young woman surrounded by cupids. Brilliant ormolu bronze leaf handles and bases accent the urns, which sold well above a high estimate of $25,000 at an impressive $40,250.

The prized lot of the day was undoubtedly a pair of early to mid 19th Century English Coalport porcelain urns. The Coalport porcelain factory, established in 1796, is known for its high-quality and elaborate pieces. The urns include a fine hand painted floral decoration, original gold leaf trim and an ormolu bronze ring bordering the top of the upper bowl. The urns soared above their estimate of $25,000-$40,000 and ultimately realized $69,000.

“I’m thrilled that our second California auction was such a success,” commented Frank Kaminski. “Expanding operations to the West Coast has really given us a broadened perspective on our business and has greatly benefited our consignors.”

Kaminski Auctions returns to the East Coast for their next event, October 20-21, 2007. A two-day event, Kaminski’s Fall Fine Art Weekend includes an important Fine Art Auction on October 20 featuring one of the largest single-owner collections of bronze and marble sculpture ever to come onto the auction market, and a Fine Art Salon on October 21 featuring rare prints, maps, sculpture and more.
