OnApp CEO Speaks on Federation and its Disruptive Effect on the Cloud Market at the UP Cloud Computing Conference 2012
LONDON, UK – December 5, 2012 – OnApp CEO and co-founder Ditlev Bredahl will speak about the disruptive effect of federation in the cloud market at the UP Cloud Computing Conference in San Francisco next week.
During the session, “Teaming Up to Take Back the Cloud: How Federation is Disrupting the IaaS Market,” Ditlev will discuss the current state of the cloud market - dominated by a single, monolithic provider – and how working together as a federation is the only way the rest of the industry can hope to compete.
The lion's share of the public cloud market is owned by Amazon, but it isn't just the disparity in size and financial clout that threatens smaller cloud providers: it's the commoditizing influence such a dominant force has on the cloud market. Working together is the only way providers can achieve the geographic reach, scale and product breadth needed by an increasingly savvy and demanding cloud user base – and, it's the only way the cloud market will be able to avoid the kind of stagnation that resulted from the dominance of a single player in the desktop OS wars.
"Federation is really the only hope for the traditional hosting industry, and for any service provider with serious ambitions in the cloud," said Ditlev Bredahl, CEO of OnApp. "I believe it will happen - in fact, it must happen. Increasingly, when I talk with the audience at conferences like UP, I think 'today it's a fair bet that most of you use the same cloud provider. In two or three years, I'm betting that won't be the case.' Federation is going to change everything."
