Samarth Community partners International Federation on Ageing (IFA)

Samarth Community, the leading community of senior citizens in India, is now a partner of International Federation on Ageing (IFA).

IFA Is an international non-governmental organization with a members comprising government, NGOs, industry, academia and individuals in 70 countries. With a General Consultative Status at the United Nations and its agencies including the World Health Organization, it is a voice alongside and on behalf of older adults globally.

The partnership aims to bring the issues and priorities of Indian elderly on an international platform and collectively work on seeking solutions, learning from global experience. Most senior citizens in India, especially those who live independently, are unable to get the care and trusted support they need. As a result, they compromise on their needs and lifestyle inspite of financial independence. Their children or care-givers are forced to spend disproportionate time, mind-share and/or resources to support them. So much so, that at times women are forced to stay away from the work-force to take care of elders at home.
The imminent demographic, economic, social changes with growing population of senior citizens in urban India, their increasing financial independence, safety and security environment and rising aspirations of the young leading to more women in the workforce and increased mobility, are rapidly driving up the magnitude of this problem.

Samarth is building a community of senior citizens across the country and providing family-quality care to address both the physical and emotional needs of the elderly. Through our various activities and outreach initiatives, we currently reach about 3 lakh senior citizens living in many Indian cities.

Samarth was co-founded by Asheesh Gupta, former consultant at McKinsey & Company, co-founder of 9.9 Media and a graduate of IIT Kanpur & IIM Calcutta; Anuradha Das Mathur, an economist from University of Cambridge UK, former head of Businessworld magazine, co-founder of 9.9 Media and founding Dean of Vedica Scholars’ Program; Gaurav Agarwal, former banker at Citi and Stanchart for nearly 20 years and a graduate of MIT Manipal and FMS Delhi.
The Founders are joined by an eminent Advisory Council which includes Mrs. Asha Das, Retd. Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development; Mr. Probir Sen, Vice Chairman, Helpage India and Ex Chairman, Air India; Mr. Maxwell Parreira, Retd Jt. Commissioner of Police, Delhi; Mr. Rajendra Prasad, Former President and CFO, SRF Ltd.; Mr. Anupam Bhasin, Educationist and Consultant, Former Director, Hero Group; Mr. Vivek Atrey, Ex. Deputy Commissioner, Panchkula District; Mr. R.M. Agarwal, Retd. General Manager, Indian Railways and Mr. Manu Raman, Former COO of Mu Sigma and Co-founder of Goodhands, an eldercare pioneer in Bangalore.
