Industrial shredder for Zak Enterprises

Zak Enterprises, a leader in IT recycling and data security based in San Francisco, CA, has recently expanded its capabilities into the data destruction field. The company purchased the UNTHA America RS30 industrial shredder and is now able to offer total destruction of hard drives, tapes and other data retention materials. The RS30 comes from the illustrious RS Series, which has been tried and tested for decades. It is well known as a line of powerful, rugged industrial shredders which easily handle difficult operating conditions and multiple-shift continuous operation. “More than 40 years of experience is built into the RS Series,” says Bernhard Mueggler, president and CEO of UNTHA America. “We have thousands of these industrial shredders in daily operation around the globe.”
The RS30 debuted 25 years ago, but was recently redesigned, and now requires even less maintenance. Its ease of use and diverse capabilities attracted Zak Enterprises.

Zak Enterprises serves numerous types of businesses, including hospitals, universities, law firms, banks, and government agencies. They follow a “Zero Landfill” policy with audited downstream vendors and issue Certificates of Compliant Destruction and Recycling to all of their customers. As a NAID member, they provide full data destruction services to the NIST and DOD 5220.22-M standard. This is the guideline that most reputable data destruction services follow to ensure compliance with government regulations.

Prior to purchasing the RS30, Zak Enterprises had been involved in reprocessing IT materials, but had not provided data destruction. The purchase of the RS30 has opened a new revenue stream. “We are very pleased with the RS30,” says Greg Hall, director of enterprise sales with Zak Enterprises. “Just having the shredding capability has allowed us to secure two new accounts and our business is expanding”.

Hall notes that Zak Enterprises is especially impressed with the RS30’s perforated screen which catches all material down to 15 millimeters. With the RS30, material is drawn into the main cutters and both pre-shredded and re-shredded in a single pass. Material that doesn’t pass through the screen is transferred to secondary cutters which send the material back to the cutting chamber for re-shredding.

“Our clients, especially our federal accounts, need to know that their data is securely protected ‘cradle to grave,’” says Hall. “Our entire process is audited to guard against security leaks and to make sure we are within the strictest environmental compliance. By adding the RS30, we have taken yet another step to make sure our facilities and full ranges of services are state-of-the-art.”
