AIDAUG - Artificial Intelligence, Data, and Analytics User Group
“The need for an international, large scale and independent user group in the domain of artificial intelligence (AI) has never been greater,” says Jean-Georges Perrin, president, and co-founder.
The group was founded by eleven individuals, passionate not only about all things data and AI but about sharing knowledge, helping others. Heather Cole (USA), Jean-Georges Perrin (USA), Jens Bäumler (Germany), Mark Lack (USA), Martin Otto (Germany), Paul Cortellesi (USA), Paul Mendelson (Israel), Ralf Roeber (Spain), Rikke Jacobsen (Denmark), Ryan Dolley (USA), and Stuart Litel (USA) are all seasoned professionals and have extensive experience in running user groups.
AIDAUG is not only focusing on the principles of AI but is developing a strong partnership with the leader in AI technology, IBM: “A critical part of a vibrant business is a highly engaged user group to act as a venue for feedback and independent advocacy. Watson has been a pioneer in AI, as it matures and its user base grows, it needed an independent and strong user group, I encourage everyone to explore AIDAUG” confirms Seth Dobrin, IBM’s Global Chief AI Officer.
Otto remembers the first meeting: “it was difficult to find a good date for all of us to get together, the only time we could meet was on Easter 2021, we all gave up some family time to get AIDAUG started.”
The group worked tirelessly to make it happen. “We were on this talk with Darren Kaplan interviewing us about what it means to be IBM Champions, but we could not say a word” admits Cortellesi, with a little sadness in his voice.
Mendelson is convinced: “Artificial intelligence is changing our lives profoundly,” “but we need to set high-level of ethics” add Dolley. This is one of the strengths of this group: its diversity brings many views to the table, from the passion for the algorithms behind AI to the fight against the negative bias of AI.
AIDAUG publishes a monthly newsletter, called the Forecaster on curated topics, events, and highlights found in the AI and data analytics area. Roeber admits: “even if the group was not officially launched, I could not resist publishing the first issue in September.” It is now available for members on http://aidaug.org.
The group’s next steps are to finalize the paperwork needed to fully operate as a nonprofit organization, an effort led by VP & treasurer Cole.
