The Hobbit Feest party will take place on 17 and 18 November 2012 on Kasteel de Berckt in Baarlo, Netherlands. In expectance of the Hobbit film by Peter Jackson, which will come to cinemas a month later, and as part of the Hobbit Year project, the Dutch Tolkien Society Unqendor and the German Tolkien Society DTG are inviting all Tolkien and fantasy fans into the Shire, to travel ‘there and back again’ to the Lonely Mountain.

Guests at the Hobbit Feest can look forward to two days with a full programme around the Hobbit and Tolkien’s other works. There will be lectures ranging from pure entertainment to academic insights in German, English and Dutch (for example by Renee Vink, Marcel Aubron-Bülles, Friedhelm Schneidewind, Cecile van Zon, Dr. Christian Weichmann, Sebastian Kleinen, Jaap van t’Hoff and Frank Wasmus), a reading from the Tolkien parodies by author Myk Jung, costume shows, film presentations, games, exhibitions, live music from the band Verus Viator and many things more. About DTG:
The non-profit organisation Deutsche Tolkien Gesellschaft e.V. (German Tolkien Society) advances the academic engagement and circulation of the works of Professor John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, CBE, and other works that invoke comparison. It fosters the collaboration of different academic disciplines, organises regional Tolkien Days, the nation-wide Tolkien Thing, an annual Tolkien Conference, lectures, readings and exhibitions and publishes members’ journal Der Flammifer von Westernis as well as the academic yearbook Hither Shore, which has received the German Fantasy Award twice in the secondary literature category. For further information:

About Unquendor:
The (Dutch) Tolkien Society Unquendor was formed on 22 September 1981. Members express their interest in Tolkien in many ways: educative, by discussing or writing about Tolkien and his work; creative, by making drawings and clothing or writing poems and stories based on Middle-earth; but it can also be a more active involvement, such as visiting smials (local meetings) and annual parties, or by reading the magazine Lembas. This combination of activities makes Unquendor not only interesting for those who admire his written works, but for people who want to express their interest in Middle-earth in other ways as well.
