Gig workforce increase in Moving Industry in 2021 - The Pandemic Effect

The Pandemic Lock down on March 2020 caught the Moving Industry completely off guard. As the business operation came to a sudden halt with consignment stuck in transit while salaries and overhead cost were running high. As the lock down stretched beyond months and increasing anxiety led to almost entire low-end working staff move back home to their natives, companies increasingly started hiring temporary staffers and daily wagers. This has led to a massive increase in hiring in gig workspace. As per moving industry estimates, the gig workforce in moving industry is likely to increase to 175 - 200 % by 2021 end. There is a major gig hiring in drivers, loaders, delivery verticals which doesn't require expertise and experience in packing and moving services.

What needs to be seen is if moving industry can move ahead and grow on the shoulders of gig workforce or will the industry move towards permanent hiring again once the economy starts growing and bottom lines become healthier. The incentives for the companies in maintaining gig workforce are multiple including decreased costs, less labor law & regulations and easier hiring and firing.

As the economy opens up completely and industry gains full speed, the supply of reasonably equipped workforce will decrease and cost of hiring gig workforce wills start increasing.
