Photovoltaic market of 2012 – the newest survey shows: the sun

A survey about the photovoltaic market of 2012 has been conducted in the past weeks on the initiative of CleanThinking.de and Milk the Sun. The results are evident. Solar industry is moving onto new markets outside Europe.
By conducing this opinion poll, CleanThinking.de, the online business magazine for CleanTech industry, and the PV-marketplace of Milk the Sun have addressed the issue of constantly altering conditions within the photovoltaic industry. Market participants feel overwhelmed with decreasing Feed-in-Tariffs, new energy legislature and changing directives. How the current developments affect the individual participant in practice can now be found in the study about photovoltaic market 2012.
Among those surveyed were project developers, installations’ operators and owners, investors as well as owners of rooftops and undeveloped areas. By and large, the atmosphere on the photovoltaic market is moderate to positive. First, the return expectations of investors for current projects based on the deployed capital contribution lay in the upper centre span: 57% expect a return of 7 to 10%.
Furthermore, more than a half of respondents indicated the amount of 50-70 €/kWp as an appropriate price for fully developed project rights.
Interestingly, the majority (41%) perceived the countries outside of European Union as the biggest development potential for photovoltaic. This only confirms the already existing trend in the solar industry, which is to move to new markets such as Africa or South-East Asia. The explanation for this can be found in the serious changes on the home market, as proven by 71% of the poll participants who indicated to feel insecure because of the current discussion around the Renewable Energy Law. The PV marketplace of Milk the Sun has already reacted to these new trends. Projects, installations, rooftops and undeveloped areas from outside Europe (e.g. from South America, USA or Turkey) can by now be registered and traded on the online platform.
CleanThinking.de and Milk the Sun thank all the participants for their contribution! This market analysis allows an insight into the current trends on the photovoltaic market and creates more transparency for all the players in the solar industry. Detailed results and demonstrative graphics can be found on the blog of Milk the Sun.

Launched in March 2012, Milk the Sun (MtS) provides the first B2B portal in the field of photovoltaics (PV). Milk the Sun brings together all market participants – rooftop and open space owners, roof-agents, project developers, installation companies, insurers and investors alike. It is a pan-European online marketplace that allows buyers and sellers in PV industry to search, browse and connect with other PV market participants. Registered users can advertise their project offers and requests on a clear and standardised interface. Additionally, our platform integrates service providers in the area of photovoltaics. This allows for the first, transparent, Europe-wide trading of project rights (primary market) and installed solar systems (secondary market) - without long broker chains – and for the comparison of complementary service providers.
