A recent study shows: operators of PV plants could considerably cut their insurance costs
According to a recent study conducted by PV marketplace Milk the Sun the costs for most PV insurances could be reduced by 10% with equal or better performance. The market analysis carried out by the European online marketplace for the PV industry showed that in 9 out of 10 cases premia paid for PV insurances were clearly too high, the limits of liability were too low and therefore these insurances created unnecessary costs. The greatest price differences were identified for those plants that have been connected to the grid for more than two years. Due to the sharp decrease in initial cost per KWp since their mounting, running expenses for these plants could be considerably reduced with a new insurance policy.
The provider market and the respective coverage are extremely untransparent. The same applies to the determination of premia as well as to the configuration of the terms of contract. Insurance policies are often priced with upfront no-claims bonuses which are cancelled in the first event of (even small) damage.
Plant operators can find transparent and efficient solutions freely accessible on the internet, for example at https://www.milkthesun.com/eng/insurance-calculator. Such insurance calculators make it possible to determine insurance conditions and premia on a daily basis, tailored to the characteristics of the plant concerned. This way users receive an independent opportunity of comparison with which they can benchmark their insurance free of charge and non-bindingly.
Milk the Sun makes the European photovoltaic market transparent, convenient and efficient. Milk the Sun is the online portal that connects you and your future partners in the photovoltaic industry.
