Does it get any greener? The green-screen studio of diefarbenull

Cologne (Germany), 11th September 2012 Sustainability is becoming more and more significant, and it is a trend which Cologne’s greenest studio, diefarbenull, acknowledges and actively supports.

Sustainability starts with little day-to-day things: ensuring short production routes, using recyclable materials and conserving resources all help protect the environment! And the green screen studio of diefarbenull is right at the forefront of such efforts.

Lighting for the green screen studio alone requires around four 2kW space lights, 14 1kW back lights, three 2kW ARRI Fresnel spotlights and a 1kW floodlight. That’s certainly enough to keep the electricity meter ticking over! And it makes it all the more important that the electricity we use comes from renewable sources. This is why diefarbenull uses only green electricity. “Protecting the environment is massively important and of course each of us as individuals should look at how we treat the environment, but as a business we wanted to set a good example too. So I made the decision to go for green electricity right from the start,” says Cihan Hazar, owner of diefarbenull.

There has also been a “green” thread running through the work going on at diefarbenull over the past fortnight. Two camera teams, made up of cameramen, sound assistants and editors, produced nine English-language trend and image films for the international garden trade fair spoga+gafa 2012 on behalf of koelnmesse (Cologne Trade Fair). Using two mobile editing suites, the teams were able to finish and broadcast the films on the same days as they were made.
