Catholic University of Korea Selects Bright Cluster Manager to Improve HPC Productivity
University dropped open source toolkits in favor of Bright Cluster Manager to improve throughput, reduce complexity of managing mixed CPU / GPU clusterBright Computing — the leading independent provider of cluster management software — announced that Askanet, leading HPC integrator in Korea, installed Bright Cluster Manager® for a powerful new compute cluster at the Catholic University of Korea. The university switched to Bright Cluster Manager to save researchers’ time, ensure high system productivity, and to minimize the complexity of managing their cluster. Bright will be used for provisioning, job scheduling, monitoring and system management.
The cluster, built by Bright partner Askanet, comprises Intel® Xeon® E5-2670 CPUs and NVIDIA TESLA 2090 GPUs, delivering 3.2 TFlops/sec of compute power for the university’s Medical Physics department.
“Bright Cluster Manager is a big improvement over the open source tools and scripts the university previously used to manage its HPC cluster,” said Rachel Lyu, Marketing Manager, Askanet. “The university’s upgrade of its HPC cluster gave us an opportunity to greatly improve the way the cluster is managed by installing Bright. Researchers will benefit with a higher capacity cluster that is easier to manage and with higher throughput than in the past.”.
The higher throughput that Ms. Lyu referred to in her statement is a direct result of Bright Cluster Manager’s extensive cluster health checking capabilities. Bright identifies problematic nodes and components before they fail, sidelines these nodes, and automatically alerts the system administrator. As a result, most system-related job crashes are avoided. In addition, Bright also provides automatic head node failover, enabling clusters to continue computations even when the head node crashes, again increasing system throughput.
