GEORG finishing lines division develops new high-duty slitting line

GEORG-Slitting line started operation at Delta-Stahl

The German Steel Service Center Delta Stahl GmbH, located in Barsinghausen near Hanover, is a competent partner for the entire metal-working industry in the field of surface-finished sheets all over Europe. They are part of the independent KNAUF INTERFER Group.
With the commissioning of the high-duty slitting line, supplied by the GEORG finishing lines division the production capacity can be increased, and besides, the customer will be able to produce material of higher strengths more efficiently, as, for example, required in the automotive industry. Additionally to the cut-to-length line supplied by GEORG finishing lines division in 2008, Delta Stahl operates with a further process-oriented finishing line, built by GEORG.

This new slitting line has been designed for processing steel coils of material widths up to 1.800 mm and thickness ranges from 0,25 to 4,18 mm, whereby the master coils are separated into max. 50 strips and then recoiled with straight edges. The slitting line is running with a speed of max. 400 m/min. at highest quality standard with regard to cutting result and surface quality. This is especially valid for material strength ranges of up to 1.400 N/mm² as per today’s requirements.

Flexible systems build by GEORG finishing lines division for efficient production:
In order to guarantee the flexibility and efficiency of the slitting line, as it is required in steel service centers, the slitting line has been provided with a very high automation level and special mechanical components. These are, for example, the coil turnstiles in the line entry and exit which enable a flexible loading and unloading of the line, and also the further processing of incompletely treated coils. Moreover, the line is equipped with an automatic tool change on the slitting shear which can be performed in less than five minutes. An automatic CNC separation has also been integrated for the fully-automatic positioning of all separating discs during the tool change process.

Material-specific brake technologies:
For protection of the strip surfaces the slitting line is equipped with a variety of brake systems which can be combined, depending on the specific material to be processed.
Particular importance is attached on the belt brake which operates almost without relative movement between material and brake material. Thus, a gentle recoiling of the strip is realized.

Another feature of the new line is the integrated GEORG coil packaging line, which has been designed for a production of max. 90 rings per hour. Besides an electro-mechanically operating coil tilting table for taking off the slitted rings from the coil turnstile this packaging line is equipped with a stacking bridge for the commissioning of rings, according to the customer’s requirements. The strapping of coils through the coil eye is done fully-automatically as well.
