Rolls-Royce Leisure installs third defibrillator at its complex

07-27-2021 03:06 PM CET | Business, Economy, Finances, Banking & Insurance

Press release from: Rolls-Royce Leisure

One of the Derby’s oldest and most popular leisure clubs has installed an additional defibrillator at its site following footballer Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

Rolls-Royce Leisure on Moor Lane in Derby already had two Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) across its 30-acre complex but following the collapse of Denmark’s Christian Eriksen during the game against Finland, the team decided to invest in a third one.

The new defibrillator has been installed at the caretaker’s offices at the complex with the others at the Pavilion restaurant and the Fitness Centre.

Having three allows all guests quick access to a defibrillator no matter where they are or what they are doing across the site. The AED’s will be accessible whenever staff are at the complex.
Research carried out by the British Heart Foundation found that less than 1 in 10 people survive a sudden cardiac arrest and only 3% of defibrillators are used outside of hospitals.

Only 40% of bystanders who witness a cardiac arrest would be confident in performing CPR.
According to research from First Aid for Life, by having accessible defibrillators across the Rolls-Royce Leisure site, it can help increase survival rates by 74%

The Rolls-Royce Leisure complex is gradually returning to full operation after lockdown restriction forced many of its facilities to close.

Services have reopened in line with government guidance, with 5-a-side-football and outdoor tennis opening in March. The Fitness Centre opened in April and staff have been welcoming guests back to its gym and indoor classes.

Commenting on the installation of the new defibrillator, Colin Bancroft, general manager at Rolls-Royce Leisure said:

“When Christian Eriksen went into cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, the quick response from paramedics was extraordinary and having a defibrillator on hand saved his life.
“The incident highlighted the need for more people to learn CPR and have accessible defibrillators in more public places, so it was a no-brainer to purchase another one to have at our site.

“Keeping all our guests safe is our number one priority and by having three AEDs increases the chances of saving someone’s life.”
