FISH technology is widely applied in the diagnostic industry, such as identification of structural and numerical abnormalities in chromosomes, characterization of marker chromosomes, monitoring of therapeutic drugs, identification of rare and genetic diseases. This technique is also applied in clinical studies, including gene mapping and characterization of somatic cell hybrids. Three types of FISH probes are commercially available, each with different uses.
