Bizerba's US label factory moves
Bochum, 6.July 2012 – Bizerba labels are a real sales success in the USA! Turnover has increased rapidly in the past four years. In order to keep up with the high volume of orders, the production site was moved in March 2012: the new Bizerba factory is situated in Joppa in the state of Maryland and is twice the size of its predecessor in Forest Hill at 5,500 square metres.
Forest Hill was originally home to Mid Atlantic Label's production. Bizerba took over the label factory in 2008 and has since achieved considerable expansion with a clear growth in turnover and fifty per cent increase in the number of employees. Customers include major food producers, leading spice manufacturers and companies from the cosmetic, chemistry and pharmaceutical industry. Although lately we had 75 employees producing labels in three-shift operation, we were still struggling to manage the high volume of orders, meaning that it was necessary to move. The new factory in Joppa offers space for additional printing facilities, additional storage space as well as a special production area for the cosmetics industry. "With the new site we have laid the groundwork for continued growth in future," explains Marc Büttgenbach, Sales Director for Labels and Consumables at Bizerba.
The one-stop shop principle: devices and labels from a single source
How is it the case that demand has risen so much? One of the reasons is the 'one-stop shop' principle. "Many companies are already using Bizerba devices and are now also buying the matching labels from our company in order to benefit from the compatibility advantages," continues Büttgenbach. He explains that labels from lower-quality manufacture are counterproductive and often cause serious damage to machines, for example destroying the printing heads. "High quality labels, on the other hand, lead to increased production efficiency with low downtimes and therefore create a clear competitive advantage. In addition, American customers are more service-oriented than European customers. They like to have everything from one source, keep purchasing effort and cost low and achieve clear, manageably low total cost of ownership (TCO), i.e. they want to know exactly how much a processed package will finally cost," says Büttgenbach.
Quality assurance and service orientation at the new factory in Joppa
In order to ensure high product quality, experienced specialists work in all areas of label production, from design to printing and pre-printing to finishing. Service is always the focus: Bizerba supports its customers in finding the right material for their product, in designing the perfect graphics and in experimenting with formats. Before big series production starts, proofs (test prints) are made with a digital printing machine and spectrophotometric analysis is used to check whether all of the colours used are compatible. This secures the quality that the customer expects.
