arvato Systems is introducing a new Internet Protocol Standard, IPv6

arvato Systems (Gütersloh, Germany) -- The number of IP addresses available is in decline. Without them, the internet cannot function. That’s why arvato Systems is heeding the Internet Society’s call to action, and participating in this year’s IPv6 launch day. The new protocol will exponentially expand the number of available IP addresses.

IPv6, or ‘Internet Protocol Version 6’ is a new Internet Protocol standard, designed to replace the previous standard IPv4, which offers only limited address space. Unlike IPv6 Day in 2011, during which major website administrators activated the new Web addresses for one day only, the participants of Launch Day 2012 will activate the new Protocol standard permanently.

Participation in this event, in combination with other network projects carried out by an internal task force, will put arvato Systems ahead of the curve with new Web technologies, ensuring that they are well equipped to handle any future developments and solutions. The arvato Systems homepage www.arvato-systems.de can be reached using an IPv6 address as of the 31st of May. The page is linked with dual-stack implementation, meaning it has both an IPv4 and an IPv6 address. This allows systems with an IPv6 address to access the arvato Systems website directly.

The new protocol is set to completely replace the old within the next few years, as the 4.3 billion possible IPv4 addresses are almost all in use. The available IPv4 address space in Asia has already been used up. IPv6 is a long term solution to this problem: The new address space will include approximately 340 sextillion IPs - a sextillion is a 1 followed by 36 zeroes.
