Specialist pharmaceutical training company, PharmaTraining, reports first year success for its new tableting course.

Nottingham, UK, June 19, 2012 -- Specialist pharmaceutical training company, PharmaTraining, reports first year success for its new tableting course: Hands on Tablet Development (including the principles of pre-formulation, formulation and process development), as attendees benefit from the unique blend of theory and practical hands on experience.

The course, which started in September 2011, was developed by PharmaTraining following increased interest from individuals and companies wanting to gain a basic level of understanding of the entire tableting process. Currently a unique proposition in the UK and across Europe, course attendees are benefiting from the ability to get actual hands on practical experience of tableting supplemented with lecture based theory through conjoining practical sessions. This is a combination that is providing hugely successful with clients.

Dr Otto Soidinsalo, Technical Manager for Shin-Etsu GmbH and recent participate on the course comments: “The Hands on Tablet Development course provides an excellent information package about the techniques and methods used in formulation of solid dosage forms in a good balance with theoretical and practical parts. I can warmly recommend this course to anyone working in the pharmaceutical industry, whether you are new or want to refresh your knowledge."

Available three times a year, the three day, full time course is held at PharmaTraining’s head office in Beckenham, London. Each day is structured to lead with lectures on aspects of tablet development, including pre-formulation, formulation and process development, complemented with related experimental work where attendees can put their learning to the test. Designed to offer a small and intimate study environment, each course runs to a maximum capacity of 10, where members have the freedom to experiment but also have support from the on-hand technical team.

Hands on Tablet Development is an introductory overview to teach the multifunctional aspects of tableting. A perfect introduction for new starters, as well as to train experienced personnel who may require a broader overview, or, alternatively, to meet the needs of companies who regularly rotate staff into different roles that may require knowledge of tableting. The course is run using bench top equipment including blenders, The Gamlen Tablet Press and analysis apparatus to teach attendees the processes of compression, ejection and breakage in accordance with the Quality by Design initiative.

PharmaTraining sees the course as relevant for a wide variety of industry individuals within the R&D, Analytical, QC and Production Support fields but are specifically seeing an uplift in interest and attendance from employees within Regulatory Affairs. Commenting on the target audience, Dipankar Dey, Training Manager at PharmaTraining said: “We are gaining great feedback from a high proportion of attendees and specifically those from regulatory affairs. For those who do not usually see or immerse themselves in the practicality of tableting, and yet are required to review the process in document form, this course is immensely valuable”.

He continues: “It allows them the essential hands on experience and offers them a better understanding of the process to assist in making more informed decisions. Hands on Tablet Development is a perfect starter course that offers a spring board into some of our more established and more advanced courses. By designing this introductory set of sessions we are offering customers either a one off introductory course, or one that can be used as a transition into further more complex courses and training progression.”

The Hands on Tablet Development course is structured as follows: Day One: Overview of how tablets are produced in accordance to Quality by Design, material properties and their impact on processing and the role of excipients; Day Two: Formulating good products; Day Three: Process development and validation.

Places are still available for the next course to be held on 4th - 6th July. Or book your early bird place on the September course - 26th to the 28th September. Alternatively tailored and/or bespoke training courses, held in-house, can also be provided. For more information or to book log onto: www.pharma-training-courses.com
