Honor is a Reward for What You Give

BITS Pilani and RLINS Madurai have a Memorandum of Understanding for conducting off campus collaborative BS Marine Engineering and BS Nautical Technology to address the HRD needs of the Merchant Navy profession.

Today, roughly 90 percent of Global Cargo moves by containers. The Maritime Education has vast career opportunities all over the world. Earlier, in India, the Government of India alone was conducting Maritime Training through Government Institutions. Due to increase in Maritime activities, there is a shortage of qualified Maritime Officers for Merchant Navy.

RL Institute of Nautical Sciences "RLINS", Madurai is a unit of Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy Foundation ( SLF ) promoted by Dr R Lakshmipathy a doyen of the Newspaper Industry. The facilities at RLINS, Madurai include T S Meenakshi a ship in the Madurai Campus apart from Full Mission Engine Simulator, Full Mission Ship Manoeuvring Simulators. RLINS, Madurai is a certified institution by the Indian Register Quality System ( IRQS ) to meet the requirements of ISO 9001:2000 apart from CRISIL rating of "Very Good".

RLINS cadets firmly believe in Walter Scott quote "He is the best sailor who can steer within fewest points of the wind, and exact a motive power out of the greatest obstacles." So far five batches of Marine Engineers have graduated from RLINS and the sixth batch is due for graduation in August 2007. With an enviable placement record, the BITS Pilani - RLINS Madurai collaboration is indeed sailing for success and setting new standards in Maritime education.

On 19 June 2007, in a brief function held at BITS Pilani, Dr R Lakshmipathy President RLINS Madurai thanked and honored Prof L K Maheshwari Vice Chancellor BITS Pilani with a Golden Shawl for taking the collaboration to greater glory.

Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani is one among the top ranking universities in India today offering degrees in Engineering, Management, Economics, Pharmacy, Sciences, Engineering Technology, Information Systems, General Studies, Finance, etc presently at Pilani, Dubai, Goa campuses and in the near future at Hyderabad campus.
