Press release from: Creative Bioarray

Creative Bioarray, one of the world’s leading biotechnology provider whose mission focuses on developing high quality products and services that can be applied to accelerate the investigation of life science research, recently it announced the launch of primary adipocytes in order to promote the development of drug screening and therapeutical development.

The role of adipose cells is not just to store fat. They also play a role in metabolic diseases. By better understanding the function and interaction of fat cells, researchers can develop targeted new therapies to treat obesity and diabetes. Acting as an energy reservoir, storing and releasing energy is just one of the functions of high dynamic adipose tissue. Adipocytes (mature fat cells) also produce and secrete hormones, which affect energy intake. In addition, some fat cells can convert chemical energy into heat. Adipocytes are not the only component of adipose tissue. Adipose tissue is also composed of connective tissue and other cells, such as pre-adipocytes, macrophages, fibroblasts, endothelial cells and stem cells. These cells work together to maintain the integrity of fat cells and hormone balance.

In order to characterize the molecular pathways of metabolic diseases and determine new treatment modalities, relevant in vitro models are needed, which are of great value for determining the mechanisms involved in adipocyte proliferation, differentiation, adipokine secretion, and gene/protein expression. Creative Bioarray released multiple types of primary adipocytes:

Human Subcutaneous Preadipocytes, providing an ideal culture model for studying the mechanism of fat formation and screening drugs for metabolic diseases (such as obesity, diabetes, and hypertension).

The 3T3-L1 cell line, which is formed by clonal expansion of rodent-derived cells, contains only one cell type. Although generally considered immortal, the ability of 3T3-L1 cells to differentiate into adipocytes decreases as the number of passages increases. These cell lines are very useful in identifying key molecular markers, transcription factors and various interactions required for the differentiation of preadipocytes, so they are often used for rapid screening and evaluation of the adipogenic potential of various drugs or cellular perturbations.

Mature adipocytes, short-term maintenance of these cells isolated from adipose tissue has been used to evaluate metabolic parameters, for example, the acute effects of insulin exposure on intracellular glucose transporter and hexose uptake have been evaluated in freshly isolated mature adipocytes.

“The excess fat can have a major impact on overall health. For example, complete loss of adipose tissue can lead to reproductive dysfunction, while excess fat can lead to obesity, cardiovascular disease, cancer or diabetes.” said Hannah Cole, the marketing director of Creative Bioarray, she added, “Our scientists are deveoted to developing comprehensive adipocytes to acclerate related research.”
