Press release from: Creative Bioarray

Creative Bioarray, the world’s leading biotechnology products and service provider, focuses on developing high quality products and satisfatory services to accelerate life sciences research, solve complex analytical challenges and increase laboratory productivity. Recently, Creative Bioarray announced the release of its human cardiac cells to support therapeutic interventions of cardiovascular disease.

A single cardiomyocyte represents the smallest fully functional model system of the myocardium and can be used to examine force production, relaxation function, ion regulation, cell signaling and gene expression. Therefore, understanding the regulators of cardiomyocyte function is essential for the discovery and development of therapeutic interventions.

Creative Bioarray can provide multiple types of human cardiac cells, which can be used for adhesion, migration, angiogenesis, regenerative medicine, drug screening and disease model determination, including but not limited to the following:

Human cardiac fibroblasts (CF) are the most common cell type in the heart, which plays an important role in maintaining the extracellular matrix of the normal heart and synthesizing growth factors and cytokines. Under pathophysiological conditions, CF is involved in cardiac hypertrophy, cardiac fibrosis and scar formation after myocardial infarction. Therefore, cardiac fibroblasts represent an attractive treatment candidate for heart disease. Human cardiac fibroblast culture has been widely used as a model to study the remodeling of the heart matrix by physiological (exercise) and pathological (hypertension) stressors.

Cardiomyocytes are highly specialized cells with high oxygen content and contain a large number of mitochondria. They account for up to 75% of the heart's mass. All cardiomyocytes can spontaneously depolarize and repolarize their membrane rhythmically. The contraction of cardiomyocytes is myogenic, which is independent of nerve stimulation. There is a complex signal network in the cardiomyocytes of the heart, which can regulate the rhythmic beating of the heart. A better understanding of the cardiac signaling network will help reveal the cellular mechanisms that regulate the death of cardiac myocytes. For most cardiac microphysiological systems, the ideal cell type is primary human adult cardiomyocytes.

Human cardiac microvascular endothelial cells (HCMEC) interact strongly with cardiomyocytes, and therefore have a characteristic phenotype different from other microvascular endothelial cells. HCMEC regulates vascular tone by releasing and degrading endothelium-derived vasoactive factors and regulating the local levels of vasoconstrictors and vasodilators through its enzymatic activity. Many of these substances can also change the contraction behavior of the heart muscle. In addition, the microvasculature has been shown to participate in the regulation of leukocyte recruitment, inflammation, and angiogenesis. They are also able to transdifferentiate into myofibroblasts, indicating a role in the abnormal accumulation of matrix and fibrotic diseases.

“Our cardiomyocytes are very suitable for drug screening, drug validation, cardiotoxicity testing, and metabolic research and electrophysiological applications.” said Hannah Cole, she also added, “Creative Bioarray provides fully defined media and coating reagents optimized for cardiomyocytes to maximize the recovery and viability of experimental determinations.”
