Press release from: netXccel Inc

Trial implementation proposals are solicited for Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN).

Rockville, Md. — Award winning federal market research provider fedXccel is reporting continued progress on the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) initiative. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is requesting proposals from industry to take forward the NHIN project from prototype phase into trial implementation.

NHIN is a “network of networks” that securely connect consumers and service providers to reduce costs and improve the quality of care. “The latest NHIN solicitation indicates forward movement in the roll-out plan of an interoperable and standards based healthcare infrastructure,” said fedXccel chief Gaurav “GP” Pal.

A pre-proposal teleconference on the RFP for the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) was hosted by Contracting Officer Janet Miller and by John W. Loonsk, MD, Director of the Office of Interoperability and Standards.

Teleconference participants asked dozens of questions about the RFP. Clearly, both industry and DHHS officials realize the complex nature of problems that need to be solved to move forward into an implementation phase.

"We view this task as a challenging one," Dr. Loonsk said. "There clearly is a need for security and confidence in this system so that we can go forward in a way that meets the expectations of the public."

The current deadline for the response to this RFP is 2 PM, July 9, 2007. Questions on the RFP shall continue to be accepted until 1 PM EDT on June 15 and must be submitted via EMail at pconner@psc.gov.

“We realize vendors are crunched for time responding to this proposal and therefore we have created a brief transcript of today’s call along with a research note on the potential funding for the program available for free download on our website.” said Pal.

Physician contributions to RHIO earnings also dropped among more mature RHIOs. The data comes from the annual Survey of Regional Health Information Organization Finance (http://rhio.hittransition.com).
