Vivid Racing Supports Softronic’s Flashing System
Vivid Racing purchased a Porsche Turbo S that already had a GIAC ECU Flash on it with their flashloader system. VR wanted to compare this to Softronic’s Flash system. Connecticut-based Softronic is the first company to start flashing the Porsche DIF and LSI line via the OBD2 port. Their current software is a complex set of programs housed in a Flash Manager and Flash Client. Where Softronic excels is in specific tuning in the thousands of maps to make sure the entire RPM range gains safe and reliable horsepower.Softronic had quoted a gain of going from 530bhp to 615bhp from just the flash. To get good comparative test results, VR did consecutive runs with about 5 minutes of cool down time in between. The car was run first with the GIAC flash and then followed up with the Softronic flash. Typically the Mustang dyno has a 20-25% drivetrain loss. When running the Turbo in Sport Mode, the vehicle’s throttle response and low end torque is noticed on both the dyno and street, however based on EGT temps, Sport Mode can usually yield lower mid to top end power.
Tests were done in both Standard and Sport Mode to show the difference in power gains. What was yielded was a peak of 541awhp and 534ft/lbs of torque with the Softronic flash in Standard Mode. This car actually exceeded the typical drivetrain loss showing that the Softronic Flashed Turbo S was actually much stronger than expected. With Sport Mode on and an increase in boost pressure, the car spooled up more quickly, making peak torque at about 400rpm faster. However, this then tapered off earlier than usual with cars in Sport Mode. Sport gave a peak of 532awhp and 524ft/lbs of torque. Comparing to the GIAC tuned flash on the car running in Standard Mode for the best possible results, the car pulled consistently with Softronic to about 4000 rpm where the tuning differences shined. From 4000rpm to 6800rpm, Softronic kept a consistent gain over the GIAC flash of about 20hp. With a peak of 506awhp and 515ft/lbs of torque, it is clear that Softronic’s tuning is far more in depth.
The best part of the ECU Flash from Softronic was that it was all done in about 20 minutes using a laptop and plugged into the OBDII port. No removing the ECU, dealing with scratching the interior, or having to wait for the power.
