Joonko’s music in the car survey: how German drivers stay entertained on the road
Berlin, 31th of August – The new digital financial platform Joonko (https://joonko.de/) just celebrated its first anniversary and recently entered the consumer loans market with a beta version. Empowering consumers to make self-determined decisions, Joonko provides a wide range of insights and informative content, ranging from car related topics to personal finance.Observing a strong increase in car tourism in Germany due to travel restrictions, Joonko wanted to know more about how car drivers entertain themselves during their rides in order to keep a cool head. As many studies have shown, music can be an immense stress reliever and therefore, may be the ultimate antidote for bad moods, anger and even for a lack of concentration while on the road.
To find out how German drivers feel about musical entertainment when driving, Joonko conducted a representative survey asking drivers for their favourite music medium and their preferred way to enjoy music in the car.
Radio still preferred over streaming
Although the idea of the “Connective Car” gives drivers access to a wide range of entertainment features while driving, the radio is still considered to be the no.1 medium by 69 percent of all surveyed car drivers. The rather outdated CD player is more popular on Germany's roads than new devices: 10% prefer to listen to their own CD compilation, rather than using either their own music from a streaming app or play music from their mobile’s local storage (9%).
Singing relieves from stress when driving
When asked about their daily musical car routine, one in four respondents under the age of 30 indicated they would “always” sing along while more experienced drivers tend to be more quiet and do only sing “occasionally” when sitting behind the wheel. Across all age groups, men tend to be more shy when their favourite song plays. Despite the positive psychological impact on the mood, Joonko found out that more than a fifth (22%) of all surveyed men never sing along while driving. In comparison, only 6% of all female respondents miss out completely on singing.
