Press release from: Clinical Solutions

13 February 2012 – Clinical Solutions and Frendoc today announce the first optimised go live of its IntefleCS 111 CRM software and TeleGuide 111 content.

Clinical Solutions and Frendoc are jointly piloting and evaluating a 111 type triage service using non-clinical call handlers, and will be live testing the IntefleCS 111 CRM software and TeleGuide 111 content solution within the existing Frendoc urgent care services, delivered both ‘In Hours’ and ‘Out of Hours’ respectively.

Dr Mark Norman, Frendoc Chairman, states: “Working with Clinical Solutions makes sense, based on the safety record and efficiency of TeleGuide 111 content within the IntefleCS 111 CRM. Calls are expected to be 30% shorter than those reported in existing 111 pilots, while we are anticipating less than 4% of calls to require an Ambulance dispatch, with well in excess of the reported 11% from the existing 111 pilots of triaged calls going to health information or home care.

“The pilot will enable us to test not only the 111 solution, but also the ability to incorporate some other elements of non 111 work we are piloting on behalf of NHS South Gloucestershire. This is being done in conjunction with the local South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Consortium for GP practices, through our existing ‘Common Approach Urgent Care 24/7’ test and learn pilot.

“We will be working closely with our 3 local CCGs (Clinical Commissioning Groups) to inform them, ahead of full procurement, what a 111 service delivers. Generating robust comparative performance measures are key to safe commissioning, and this pilot may also help to mitigate unintended local service issues.”

IntefleCS 111 is used by non-clinical call handlers to triage patients over the telephone, using fully integrated TeleGuide 111 content to direct the patients to the most appropriate care provider.

Dr Jean Challiner, Chief Medical Officer Clinical Solutions , states: “The Department of Health has fast tracked TeleGuide 111 to a live content pilot, acknowledging its safety after rigorous scenario testing and scrutiny of Clinical Solutions’ Clinical Governance arrangements. We have worked closely with Professor Matthew Cooke, National Clinical Director Urgent and Emergency Care, to define the pilot. Clinical Solutions and Frendoc will provide close clinical scrutiny of the live calls, and all data will be shared with the Department of Health on a daily basis. We anticipate that this phase of the approval process should be brought to a close within a short time frame with the potential for longer assessment if required.”

Dr Mark Norman adds: “Beyond the technology, staff training, clinical governance and reporting are also very important for us. The comprehensive training Clinical Solutions delivered on-site has enabled us to be ready ahead of schedule and fully prepared to meet the demand. The pragmatic and mature clinical governance processes around TeleGuide 111 is exactly what we need.”

Dr Jean Challiner, Chief Medical Officer Clinical Solutions concludes: TeleGuide 111 will have its NHS “Blue Badge” in time for the accelerated roll-out of NHS 111. We are very happy to go live with Frendoc and to offer breakthrough speed of assessment, cost effectiveness of non-clinical operators, and also deliver the quality of sorting that previously could only be reached by clinical triage.”
