Press release from: Alconbury Driving Centre

The roads of Cambridgeshire could soon be safer, thanks to a revolutionary new driver-training centre. Alconbury Driving Centre aims to teach drivers from teenage beginners to more experienced drivers advanced driving techniques. The centre, which boasts a mile-long six-lane ‘virtual motorway’, a skid car and a Driving Zone, gives drivers the safe opportunity to learn skills that could save their lives.

Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, UK, February 08, 2012 -- The Alconbury Airfield, off the A14 in Cambridgeshire, consisting of a mile-long runway, has now been converted into a high-class driving training centre with a virtual motorway on the old RAF airfield runway, acceleration zones and practice areas for steering, braking and low speed control techniques.

It's aim is to provide a high-skill and advanced driving training especially to teenagers before they venture out on the roads zooming in their cars. Keeping this in view the Chief Instructor of the Centre, Paul Staple says, “There is no doubt that the skills we teach give young drivers the ability to handle potentially life-threatening situations on the roads. Our aim is to make our students better than average drivers from the day they pass their test.”

The driving centre welcomes individuals and corporate teams alike for driver training, which is rigorous and intensive, but at the same time a fun and thrilling experience. Any company can bring their corporate teams for an outdoor entertainment or team building activities at the new revolutionary driving centre.

The central feature of the centre is the skid-car training, aiming at training people to handle the car during a slide or skid on wet or icy surfaces. The skid-car used for this training is a regular car that has been mounted on a hydraulic frame with four wheels that can be raised to simulate reduced grip and hence different types of skids to be managed. There are two levels of skid-car training – The Skid-Car Experience (a single session of three hours – costing £110 per head) and The Serious Side Skid-Car (three separate sessions of one hour each – costing £155 per head).
