NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Tough for K&N Filters Sponsored Travis Kvapil

Travis Kvapil started strong in the No.6 K&N Filters Ford F-150 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in North Carolina. The Janesville, Wisconsin native posted his third consecutive top-five starting spot and was second on the starting lineup for Friday night’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Race.

It only took Kvapil 13 laps to put the K&N Ford at the front of the field. He continued to run inside the top-five for the first green flag run of the race, but when the caution came out at lap 38, a slow pit stop cost Kvapil a few extra seconds. He restarted in sixth position on lap 45.

Even though Kvapil told his crew that his K&N Ford was extremely tight, he managed to advance to the fourth position. Just a handful of laps later, he had problems with his left front and the No.6 started free-falling through the field. By lap 74 Kvapil reported that he was doing all he could to hold on.

Another pit stop at lap 88 and more trouble on pit road put Kvapil in 19th position. As the laps wound down, he did what he could to pick up positions, but settled for a 13th place finish.

“We’d like to know what really happened,” said Kvapil. “We had a great truck during the test. We had one set of tires that we had to put on in the race that were really old left side tires. We knew the truck probably wouldn’t perform as well on those tires. We thought once we put another set of tires on we’d be just fine and the truck would come right back, but the truck just got way too loose. I think the truck just got too free for us as it cooled off. It’s disappointing. We just have to do a better job.”

Kvapil currently sits eight in the overall point standings. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series returns to action on May 26th at Ohio.
