Press release from: Fun and Function

July 16, 2020 – Last week, the NYC Department of Education (DOE) delivered free sensory toolkits made by Fun and Function to students in the ASD Horizon program. The kits are intended to support students with autism and sensory needs while learning at home. Families had to opt-in to receive a free kit, which was delivered at the start of summer remote learning.

The sensory tool kits, designed and tested by Fun and Function, help kids focus and self-regulate, and reduce anxiety. The Break Bags provide on-the-go solutions, such as weighted pads, fidget tools, and tools intended to improve fine to heavy motor skills. The Teen Break Boxes enable students age 9-18 to focus on the task at hand, whether in the classroom or their current homeschool environment.

The DOE partnered with Fun and Function after families expressed a need for sensory support at home. Aviva Weiss, CEO of Fun and Function, recognizes that children’s needs impact their families. “Our focus extends beyond the child to their families and communities. We want families to have the support they need during this pandemic and beyond.”
