Proud to be BITSian Chandra Bhople Celebrating 35th Wedding Anniversary sketching away the Lockdown Blues

Chandra Bhople is an ace entrepreneur and global professional who has worked in 6 countries for technology companies - India, USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and Middle East. But, his heart was always in social contribution. As a result, between 2008 and 2013 he helped establish engineering and management schools in India. During 2019, he introduced a simple experience-based method to increase concentration among middle school children in India through Bucket-a-Ball program which has shown encouraging results.

Chandra Bhople 74E06434 (74-79) did his BE (Hons) EEE from Institution of Eminence in India today Birla Institute of Technology and Science BITS Pilani in Rajasthan. To cut down mess bills and cut short middle men, as a student secretary for BITS Mess he became famous for undertaking a pilgrimage for direct procurement to Ganganagar for wheat and Hanumangarh for rice. After his Engineering degree, he also pursued MMS at BITS as an advanced standing student.

His attachment to his beloved Alma mater BITS and BITSians shows in his activities during last 20 years - mentoring student entrepreneurs, president of BITSAA Silicon Valley Chapter and board member of BITSAA International. He advocates, wherever possible, finding BITSians as co-founders, getting funded by BITS Spark, hiring BITSians and working for BITSian companies for the best results. He was deeply involved in conception of the Embryo idea for alumni talks to BITSians and its initial implementation.

With the corona virus global assault and COVID-19 Lockdown, Chandra resolved to do something different which he had never done. Taking inspiration from Henri Cartier-Bresson quote “Photography is an immediate reaction while drawing is a meditation”, Chandra decided to meditate and took a solemn vow to do a sketch of persons from BITS which included the Dynamo Diro Dr CR Mitra who put BITS Pilani a name to reckon with in global arena, Prof V Krishnamurthy one of the greatest teachers BITS Pilani ever had and 50 of his batch mates.

The batch mates chosen by him include BR Natarajan aka Dean Nattu, Distinguished alumnus Padma ShriSP Kothari, Ramchand Burra, Ashok Pandey, Chandra Sekhar Goel, Sunit Rikhi, Dilip Borah, Balu Prakash, Jagdish Roy, Raja KRV Subramanian, Siva Koorapatti, Anindya Chatterjee, TK Subramanian, Sumit Sharma, Vijay Sapra, Rajeev Gupta and Krishna Rajagopal.

Today 11 June 2020, Chandra Bhople is celebrating 35th marriage anniversary with his wife Medha. Since 1999 he is settled in Bay Area. His son Karan works for a security software company in Mountain View, California. His current interests are sketching, meditation and personal health management. When asked if there was any unfulfilled dream in his life, with a twinkle in his eyes said “would love to see alma mater BITS Pilani in top 100 in QS Rankings and Times Higher Education Global Rankings.” He can be reached at cbhople@gmail.com
