BITSAA Chennai Rocks BITSian Day Celebrations with Unforgettable Music Nite

Proud to be BITSians who are alumni of Institution of Eminence in India today BITS Pilani firmly believe that music can bond irrespective of who you are, what you are and where you are. It’s a source of entertainment as well as platform to put across past, present but also future messages. Music is undoubtedly a factor that binds the world together irrespective of the cultural diversities and is the platform to unite for a cause like BITSian Day Celebrations.

In the words of Plato “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” One among the most vibrant alumni chapter, BITSAA Chennai Chapter’s Music Nite (08 Aug, 2020) as part the BITSian day celebration weekend (07- 09 Aug 2020) kicked off at 6:30 pm sharp with 60 participants on a Zoom call. Keeping in line with the essence of any BITSAA meet, networking and fun was topping the agenda.

The first 45 minutes had people being grouped in different breakout rooms, each room having its own focus of discussion ranging from just fun generic topics, getting to know each other in depth, to subject specific topics like music or science. We also had seniors from 1970s batches talking about their golden jubilee meet up in BITS and the various initiatives that they have done to give back to the Alma Matter and the Institute that has been instrumental in their lives.

We had one of the highly acclaimed nationally and internationally Stand up Comedian Kuka (Praveen Kumar - 1998) as the emcee (MC) of the event and Malo (Malolan Sarangapani – 1988 batch) as the co-host for the event. 100+ BITSians across the globe from 36 batches (oldest belonging to 1970 and youngest belonging to 2017) and 18 different cities participated; 2000 batch participated in large numbers. Befittingly, Harish of globally loved AGAM band (fondly called as Vodka – 1998 batch) gave a roaring start with a few melodious numbers in an unplugged format.

It was followed by many more peppy, romantic and melodious numbers by talented music clubbers and music enthusiasts across batches & cities. 1987 batch music clubbers topped the performance chart with 8 Songs (thanks to the excellent coordination by Subbu – 1987 batch). A special mention must be made about Mr. Giridharan (alumnus of off campus programs - 1994) for supporting the singers and the technical know-how for virtual Music sessions. The event was also graced by officers of various BITS campuses who also relived their nostalgic moments and recognized students who passed out more than 2 decades ago!

This event was a success only because of the cooperation and the Alumni spirit of individuals who were part of the Organizing team, Music club team and the host & co-host (from across time zones) open to practice sessions at various times during the last 10 days. BITSAA International supported us with access to Zoom Pro version which enabled large participation of our Junta. With such an amazing emotional experience reverberating across the virtual space, it was bound to rain and it did indeed. Were they the joyful tears of all the BITSians reliving the memories? That ought to be it.

It was truly a magical and nostalgic few hours. Few of the singers in the event made sure to kick the nostalgia to an even higher level by bringing in picture collages of the memories they lived through. With the progress of each song, the mood only got better and the lacha was the snack each of us were having using the virtual chat box. Prof BR Natarajan aka Dean Nattu (74 for ever batch) who stole the thunder in BITSAA Maggi Challenge gave a befitting end to the evening by reciting Andha Naal ...Nyabagam... Nenjile.Vandhadhe Nanbane... Nanbane... Nanbane..., Indha Naal ...Andru Pol... Inbamaay .Illaiye, Adhu ...Yen?.Yen?.Yen? Nanbane...
