Alumni of Institution of Eminence in India today Birla Institute of Technology and Science - BITS Pilani are undoubtedly known to be dreamers, performers and achievers in various walks of life. Apart from Industry Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Social Engineering, Fiction writing, Politics etc may BITSians have entered civil services which include IAS, IFS, IRS and IPS. That brings the focus to Padma Karri, Indian Foreign Service Officer presently serving as Second secretary, Embassy of India Washington DC United States of America.

After topping Andhra Pradesh 12th exams, got direct admission to BITS Pilani BE (Hons) EEE Id number 2003A3PS005 tells it all. BITS Pilani was her first freedom destination which she utilized to explore herself and her interests. She was active member of National Service Schme NSS and Centre for Entrepreneurial Leadership CEL with focus on Rural Entrepreneurship activities. She worked in Tejas Networks Bangalore from 2007 to 2010 as R&D Engineer. Then she moved on to explore the field of public policy in whichever way she can and civil services was one of her chosen avenues.

She worked as Legislative Assistant to a Member of Parliament (2011-12), (LAMP fellowship by PRS Legislative Research, New Delhi apart from being Research Analyst 2012-13 in Foundation for Democratic Reforms (FDR), a public policy think tank, Hyderabad. She Worked during 2014-15 as Prime Minister's Rural Development Fellow (PMRDF), a ministry of Rural Development fellowship specifically designed for naxal affected backward districts and was posted in Kalahandi, Odisha. She got into Indian Foreign Service in 2015 and started her work abroad in Cairo, Egypt, wherein she learnt Arabic from American University in Cairo as part of her training.

She also was on temporary assignments at Moscow, Djibouti, Amman and New York. For past two years, she has been posted as second secretary, Embassy of India Washington DC. Also, she has just finished her masters in Professional studies in Interpreting (Arabic and English languages) from University of Maryland, College Park. Her hobbies include reading, dancing and writing. Any Indian National in trouble in any part of the world, Padma Karri has stepped instantly forward to lend a helping hand.
