Modular System iba-PADU-S

Measurement technology: flexibility instead of rigid standard

Whether you want to monitor the energy quality, acquire data or operate drive and position controls: the iba AG based in Fuerth offers you maximized flexibility with the new modular system ibaPADU-S.

ibaPADU-S acquires and processes measured signals and can be used for closed loop control and control applications by means of the suitable signal output modules. The decisive advantage of the new system is its concept which can be freely designed: you can insert a central unit and up to four input/output modules on a component carrier with a back panel. There are two options for a central unit: ibaPADU-S-IT has an integrated processor. It acquires data very quickly and intelligently processes signals for measuring, closed loop control and control tasks. It can make these signals available for other iba systems via a fiber optic connection as well as for receiving data. The second option, ibaPADU-S-CM, is a mere communication unit making available or receiving the different signals of the input and output modules only by means of a fiber optic connection. Moreover, both central units offer eight digital inputs with an input signal level of ±24 V.

It's up to the customer

Of course, other solutions in the market can also process data on an integrated CPU to specific values, but most of the time they cannot simultaneously forward the raw data to an overlaid system without a delay due to the principle itself. ibaPADU-S, however, makes it possible to simultaneously process data to specific values and to forward the raw data to an ibaPDA recording system in real time.
Dr. Ulrich Lettau, CEO at iba AG: "Our Customers repeatedly emphasized that they were bothered by the 'black box behavior' of conventional measuring devices. With usual solutions, a fixed algorithm for the processing of data was always implemented. Raw data was not forwarded by the device. Neither was it possible to make the output values plausible nor to adjust evaluation algorithms. From now on, the customer can carry out work absolutely fitting and without having to spend a lot of money with ibaPADU-S. S/he can also work conveniently and transparently thanks to the programming system ibaLogic.“

A wide range of modules for every demand

As E/A modules, modules for analog and digital inputs and outputs as well as SSI and pulse encoders are available with the ibaPADU-S system. There are available E/A modules with sampling rates of up to 40 kHz for current and voltage signals of different signal levels.

Dr. Ulrich Lettau: "ibaPADU-S is an open and independent system. No matter what the costumer's demand is, it can be quickly and easily customized. Many competitors can only offer an isolated application concerning measurement technology. iba, however, stands for an open world“.

Field tests in pilot projects

ibaPADU-S could already stand its ground in a few pilot projects in the plant manufacturing and in the power transmission technology. Due to these experiences, we could also continue to improve the system. "Thanks to these field tests, we could optimize ibaPADU-S in terms of a free combination of modules, performance, scanning the signals, timing for the back plane bus and the addressing and data exchange mechanism. We also added further modules“, Ulrich Lettau said.

In the future, iba wants to make its technology available to third party suppliers. Dr. Ulrich Lettau said: "An Application Programming Interface – API – is available that runs third party software on ibaPADU-S. We already have corresponding cooperations.“

iba connectivity grows by connection to PROFINET network
With ibaBM-PN, iba AG has again broadened its extensive connectivity to automation systems and bus systems of many automation suppliers. The newly developed PROFINET bus monitor ibaBM-PN supports the PROFINET IO communication standard. This way, iba extends its range of field bus and drive bus monitors, which serve as interfaces for data acquisition in ibaPDA (the process data acquisition system of iba). By this, data from automation systems and peripheral

Plant builders, service technicians and control programmers can now benefit from extended options of ibaPDA-PLC-Xplorer: recently two new interfaces have been added to iba’s popular data acquisition software. Now it can also be combined with Beckhoff controllers and B&R systems. With the new TwinCAT-Xplorer interface, the user has access to Beckhoff controllers with the Beckhoff-ADS protocol. It supports the TwinCAT versions 2 and 3. As for most of the ibaPDA-PLC-Xplorer
