Break the Barrier with Apni Class is clarion call by BITS Pilani alumni Aniruddh and Manas

With Coronavirus COVID-19 holding the world at large in lockdown has disrupted the educational system and put the academic calendar in topsy turvy. Today, the whole world is leading towards a digital and technologically developed future. A time where everything can be sourced through the internet, lightening the weight of heavy books off the student's shoulders. Some of the barriers like affordability, accessibility and the dearth of educational content in regional languages put many children behind in getting quality education.

The current schooling system, unfortunately, does not always support every child in realizing their true potential. Such challenges bring out of the box new and innovative solutions to face the problems. ApniClass intends to work towards the enforcement of the educational system by recognizing the pitfalls which interrupt the functionality of schools, and come up with a remedy to help improve the condition of the academic field. ApniClass intends to cater to every child irrespective of their learning style, socioeconomic and linguistic background.

Apni class was founded in December, 2018 by a duo of buddies Proud to be BITSians from Birla Institute of Technology and Science - BITS Pilani namely double masters Aniruddh Mishra MSc (Hons) Economics and MSc (Tech) Finance (2011 - 2015) and and Manas Chauhan MSc (Tech) Information Systems (2011 - 2014). During their student days they were active in Nirmaan a non-profit organization which focused on educating the underprivileged children at Pilani. In Nirmaan, Anirudh was involved in the project 'Gyaan-Bodh' and Manas in 'Siksha ki Ore'.

They would rent a room in the local basti, and teach those children in the evening for an hour or two. However, considering that just an hour cannot fully meet their goal of Nirmaan, they helped the students in getting admissions to the local private schools through the provisions of RTE section 12(1)(c). While preparing for UPSC Civil Services Examination after graduation, Aniruddh observed the tussle of Hindi medium students finding useful content over the internet.

This steered his motive to really do something to eradicate the language barriers in accessing education. To carry on with his vision, he joined hands with his close friend, Manas, who left his plush IT job in Bangalore to jointly start Apni Class, an online platform catering to the educational needs of school going children. Apni Class is developing and engaging Lecture Videos, Class-Notes, Question Banks, and Self-Evaluation Tests for classes VI to class XII in all major Indian languages as well in English.

With this, the duo hope to address the dearth of educational materials in regional languages. This material will be put out on e-platforms such as YouTube that are fairly accessible to people across the socioeconomic band. It is no surprise that the quality of student learning is directly impacted by the quality of teaching in the school. To ensure high quality of teaching, it is crucial that teachers stay motivated and focused on teaching.

Often, in schools, they are burdened by admin tasks such as Fee collection, Admission, Attendance etc. which are important but at the same time can be detrimental to the teaching learning process. Apni Class, our multilingual ERP streamlines these tedious processes and brings in efficiency and preciseness in the system which not just maximizes teachers' potential but also enables them with data driven insights. Along with that duo have developed some prototypes (3D models and simulations) to assist teachers in their day to day teaching activities.

Both of them acknowledge the broad based integrated and interdisciplinary approach of education at BITS, Pilani which gave them ample opportunities from for developing entrepreneurial skills such as Resource mobilization acumen, Negotiation, Data Analytics, Problem Solving, Decision Making and Communication apart from Ability for Leadership, Time, Stress and Project Management. They have an open mind to cooperate and collaborate with likeminded individuals and organizations to carry forward their Apni Class mission with passion.
