Aces Charity Golf Event Supports Expect More Arizona's Education Movement

December 11 marks the inaugural Aces & Aficionados Charity Golf Event at Troon North in support of Expect More Arizona; the organization leading the way to improve education across the State.

Phoenix, AZ, August 8, 2011– Portland A. Reed, cofounder of Aces & Aficionados, troubled by the deteriorating education system in Arizona, was inspired to establish an annual charity event that will support Expect More Arizona’s movement to improve the quality of schooling for the children in the State.

Current data from the StateMaster statistical resource reveals that less than 30% of Arizona’s fourth and eighth graders are above proficiency in each individual learning area of math, reading, writing and science. This raises questions as to whether there is a connection between those proficiency levels and the 30% student average that never graduate high school or secondary studies. The State government is being motivated by those dedicated to improving the quality of schooling for children to make educational excellence a priority in Arizona as careers begin implementing a requirement for tertiary education certification prior to employment. “We must look at the bigger picture. These are not just ‘our’ children” says Reed, “They are our future executives, directors, doctors, lawyers, trades people, inventors, astronauts…”

Arizona’s failing education system has attracted media attention of late as the State rolls out the new letter grades for schools formulated to measure student improvement instead of performance. “This new rating has profoundly highlighted to parents where schools are failing to meet children where they are further emphasizing a substandard quality of outdated teaching methods”, states Reed. Aces & Aficionados endeavor to remind everyone that they too were children in a classroom and at some time there would have been a teacher that made a positive impact on their life, changing it for the better, inspiring them to be more. This reminder extends an invitation to pay it forward and enable the children of today to be empowered for excellence too. In an effort to spread this message Aces & Aficionados have organized a charity golf event in support of Expect More Arizona’s movement to ‘Make Education Arizona’s Number #1 Priority’. Proceeds will help to spread the message of Expect More Arizona’s core vision: create a culture across Arizona that fully embraces the critical importance of high expectations and high quality education for all Arizona children and students.

The event has already stirred up interest across the country and has captured the heart of one of the nation’s golf industry leaders recently signing them as the Title Sponsors of the event.
