Search Engines Take Months to Rank Home Staging Websites

(UNITED STATES) October 10, 2011 – Home stagers often expect their new home staging websites to be listed on the first two pages of Google within a few days. But there are only a few coveted spots on those pages, and there are thousands of websites competing for them. Home staging expert Debra Gould recently described to readers of the Home Staging Business Report the process Google uses to rank websites.

“Google’s share of the search engine market is currently about 80%, and this is because it produces search results that people trust the most. If people didn’t trust Google so much, everyone would switch to Yahoo, Bing or one of the other search engines available,” Gould explains. “From a business perspective, Google will only make money if the results it provides are relevant, so a lot of consideration is taken regarding what websites appear on the first pages of a search.”

Gould, also known as The Staging Diva, goes on to explain that Google uses a very complicated algorithm to determine the order in which its search results are displayed. She says that only Google knows the true formula, but most web authorities agree that the formula likely incorporates some specific factors, among them the number of people who visit the site, how long they spend there, the age of the site, and how many relevant sites link back to it.

“Once a home stager launches a new home staging website, chances are that Google will not rank it at all for 3 to 6 months,” says Gould. “Fortunately, Staging Diva Graduates are eligible to join the Staging Diva Directory of Home Stagers, which means their listings will be ranked within a matter of days. That’s because Google visits the Directory every week to index the fresh content.
