With INR 10 Million Funds BITS Pilani alumni Celebrate Golden Jubilee Reunion GR2020 by Giving Guru Dakshina to 50 Faculty Members

Doyen of Indian Industry, Founder Chairman of BITS Pilani Padma Vibhushan Late Shri G D Birla in his vision of the institution had said "What do we propose to do here? We want to teach real science whether it is engineering, chemistry, humanities, physics or any other branch. We want to develop a scientific approach in Pilani, which means there would be no dogma. There will be a search for TRUTH. What we propose to do here is to cultivate a scientific mind."

The alumni of this batch take inspiration from Bhagavad Gita verse 34 Chapter 4 "tad viddhi pra?ipatena pariprashnena sevaya, upadek?hyanti te jnana? jnaninas tattva-darshina?" which means learn the Truth by approaching a guru, inquire from him with reverence and render service unto him, such an enlightened guru can impart knowledge unto you because he has seen the Truth. It is indeed a matter of great pride that funds raised by the trust by end of year 2019 only from the alumni of this batch was of the order of INR 10 Million.

The trust charter in addition to offering Guru Dakshina to the teachers who had taught cared, inspired, encouraged and challenged them during their student years also included nurturing and supporting entrepreneurship by BITSians apart from offering financial help for medical treatment to faculty and their kin. Starting from 2009, they had honoured 40 faculty members under Guru Dakshina and celebrated their golden reunion GR2020 at Pilani on 08 Feb 2020 by honoring 10 more faculty to complete the magic number 50.

The caravan of buses brought over 100 alumni of this batch with their spouses from Delhi and Jaipur to Pilani via Mandawa. They assembled at the famous Rotunda Circular amphitheater in front of iconic BITS Tower for a group photo session in their glittering gold reunion attire. They had a campus visit by seeing their hostels, departments, world famous Birla Science Centre including Pilani Gallery, Connaught the campus market place, the white marble Saraswati temple Shardapeeth, Shiv Ganga, once upon a time Gliding Club, visit to their favorite rediwalas for a quick bite etc.

The lunch was at the BITS Krishna Gandhi Hostel KG Mess with the all time unforgettable inter disciplinary menu of Saturday Alu Paratas with Pumpkin Sabji integrated with Sunday Pulav finger chips Pooris and Cassatas. After lunch, the batch reassembled at New Auditorium for high tea and the ninth edition of Guru Dakshina for 10 faculty members namely Prof NN Sen, Prof G P Srivastava, Prof K S Subudhi from Physics; Prof D P Kothari from EEE; Prof DD Santani, Prof BK Razdan, Prof Jagdev Singh from Pharmacy; Prof RS Gupta from Chemistry); Shri K M Dheer from Chemical Engineering and Prof Pratap Singh from Mathematics.

Since Prof BK Razdan Pharmacy could not travel to Pilani, Guru Dakshina was handed over at his Dehradun residence by batchmate Ram Mohan Sharma. When each of the guru received their award after their respective citations, there was a thunderous round of applause. After the Guru Dakshina program, the alumni batch hosted a grand dinner for the officials of BITS Pilani and left back to Mandawa Desert Resort and Castle Hotel for their night halt. When it comes to alumni initiatives, alumni of institution of eminence Birla Institute of Technology and Science - BITS Pilani always stand a cut above the rest.
