Passion Quotient Peaking BITS Pilani Alumni 70-75 Batch Celebrate Golden Jubilee Reunion GR2020 at Mandawa

To quote National Geographic Traveller India, erstwhile Silk Route hub, Mandawa is known today to the world at large thanks to the Bollywood superstars Salman Khan who shot for superhit Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Shah Rukh Khan who shot for Paheli in the low-key town of Mandawa in the Shekhawati region of northeast Rajasthan (3hr from Jaipur). However, well before the Khans were born onwards, Mandawa an hour journey from Pilani has been a favorite joint for BITSians for weekend bashes.

The alumni of BITS 70-75 batch decided to celebrate their Golden Jubilee Reunion in short GR2020 during Feb 7-9 at Mandawa which has 125 havelis with lavishly painted walls having frescos dating back to 18th century apart from a fort, built in 1755 by its third Rajput ruler Thakur Nawal Singh to protect his territory. This batch is not yet another passouts but something extraordinary about them. They formed a trust in April 2008 named BITS-75 Charitable Trust which received 80-G status on 20 Aug 2010.

It is indeed a matter of great pride that funds raised by the trust by end of year 2019 only from this batch is INR 10 Million. The trust charter in addition to offering Guru Dakshina to the teachers who had taught cared, inspired, encouraged and challenged them during their student years also included nurturing and supporting entrepreneurship by BITSians apart from offering financial help for medical treatment to faculty and their kin. They have till now honoured 40 faculty members under Guru Dakshina and will be celebrating the golden reunion at Pilani on 08 Feb 2020 by honoring 10 more faculty to complete the magic number 50.

Mandawa town may have seen Bollywood stars but the alumni gathering at Desert Resort and adjoining Castle Hotel on Feb 6-7 2020 at Mandawa was indeed a stellar constellation of Chairmen, Managing Directors, COOs, CEOs, CTOs, CIOs, Scientists, Presidents and Vice Presidents, Techies, Entrepreneurs, Media Moguls, Realtors, Academicians, Vice Chancellors, Professors as well as Consultants who had come not only from many parts of India but world all over. Apart from over a dozen singletons, the alumni batch had 110 BITSians who were accompanied by their spouses.

On 06 Feb 2020 evening they had a self intro session followed by Ice Breaker Game - Blast from the Past a game where one had to guess the name of batchmate given hint of his habits, crazy actions, uniqueness, behavior, achievements, notoriety, idiosyncrasy etc. The evening session included Rajasthani dances, Kalbelia and bonfire at desert resort. After a lavish dinner, free forum had singing, gappashti etc. On 07 Feb 2020 after breakfast, they had camel rides, desert jeep safari, town visit, markets and adda at desert resort.

Post lunch till dinner included group photo sessions, mimicry, poetry, tea tasting, painting, culinary skills, meditation, yoga, special makeup skills, bollywood dances, game for all, ramp walk, music and dance. The highlight of reunion is release of a Coffee Table Book titled Sunehri Yaadein containing profile of 140 batchmates. The core team for organizing the GR2020 included Hanuman Bengani, Ajai Jain, Ankur Gupta, Sanjay Guha, Arun Kumar, KN Ravi, Prabudha Roy and Vinay Kumar.

Author of best seller book "Seed of Genius" Proud to be BITSian the polymath Ankur Gupta takes credit for whole lot of creative designs for GR2020 which includes name tags, coffee table book cover, 20'x8' awe-inspiring backdrop. Dressed as Sarpanch, Hanuman Bengani won the traditional dressing hands down. The distinguished alumnus of BITS Pilani Vijay Chandru is also from this batch. If you ask what more about this batch, one must say the famous dialogue "Picture abhi bahut baaki hai mere dost!'. On 08th Feb 2020, the caravan of this batch will move to 28.3588� N, 75.5880� E for the grand finale of their Golden Jubilee Reunion GR2020.
