GD Rectifiers celebrates 55 years of electronic component distribution in the UK

This month marks a special milestone for GD Rectifiers, the engineering–led West Sussex based manufacturer and specialist distributor of power electronic components, as it celebrates 55 years of electronic component sales

GD Rectifiers was founded in 1964 as Semikron Rectifiers & Electronics Ltd, as part of HCD Research Ltd, and was associated with Semikron in Germany, selling their products.

Today, the company represents a truly global supplier base of more than 30 manufacturers from around the world, having strong partnerships with market leaders, including: IXYS, Westcode, Semikron, Littelfuse, Dynex, Bussmann, API Capacitors, Enerdoor, Mersen, KONČAR and Sirio.

GD Rectifiers boasts a niche product offering with specialisation in rail, medical, aerospace, automotive, industrial and electronics markets. They have extensive experience in the rail industry and operate a full ISO9001 quality system, follow BSI standards and have a RISQ accreditation.

Milestone’s in GD Rectifiers evolution include:
1994 – GD Rectifiers transformed in to an all-encompassing distributor, becoming an authorised stockist for IXYS, IXYS Colorado, IXYS Power and Westcode, alongside Semikron

1998 – GD Rectifiers changed ownership with current Managing Director, Paul Bentley acquiring the company. Following his appointment, the company become official distributors for: Sirio, Telcon, Mersen, Bussmann, API Capacitors, Ocram, EDI and UAL

2002 – GD Rectifiers launched a power assembly manufacturing facility, offering a wide range of single phase, three phase and hexaphase assemblies

2007 – GD Rectifiers launched a heatsink manufacturing facility offering an extensive range of aluminium heatsinks including: forced air cooled, water cooled, oil cooled and custom designed heatsinks

2015 – GD Rectifiers built and started operating form a new modern, state-of-the-art factory and office in Burgess Hill

2017 – GD Rectifiers became an official distributor for Enerdoor and KONČAR.

2018 – GD Rectifiers were finalists in The Electronics Industry Awards for – ‘Best Customer Service’

2019 – GD Rectifiers were shortlisted as nominees in The Electronics Industry Awards for – ‘Best Customer Care’, ‘Distributor of the Year’, ‘Excellence in Innovation’ and ‘Academic Support’. Paul Bentley was also nominated as ‘Industry Personality of the Year’.
