McKool Smith, one of America’s leading trial firms, has relocated its Washington, DC office to 1999 K Street, an environmentally sustainable, state-of-the-art building designed by Helmut Jahn.

“We’re excited about the move,” said Mike McKool, co-founder and Chairman of the firm. “Our DC office houses the firm’s expanding ITC litigation practice. We have an outstanding group of litigators in DC who are dedicated to serving our clients’ needs as the ITC continues to become a preferred forum for resolving intellectual property disputes.”

1999 K Street features a host of innovative amenities, including a business center that provides visitors with private internet access; automated air, heating and ventilation systems to fine-tune energy consumption; smart fixtures to reduce water usage; reflective and green roofing to insulate the building and minimize the effects of outdoor temperatures; and glass and lighting designs to maximize natural light and reduce energy, among other innovations. The building also is home to the headquarters of the international law firm Mayer Brown.

McKool Smith’s Washington, DC, office handles the firm’s growing caseload before the International Trade Commission (ITC), the agency responsible for adjudicating cases under Section 337 involving imports that allegedly infringe intellectual property rights. Most Section 337 complaints are based on allegations of patent infringement.

McKool Smith has received a flurry of accolades this year. For the third year in a row, the firm has been named to The National Law Journal “Midsize Hot List.” The firm is the only firm in the country to make the list each year since its inception. McKool Smith was named Lennox International’s “Law Firm of the Year” for successfully defending the company in a national consumer class action. In March, the firm was named the top patent litigation firm in the south by Managing IP and received the publication's 2011 “Patent Case of the Year” honor for securing a $290 million judgment for i4i Inc. against Microsoft. The judgment was unanimously affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court on June 9, 2011, and reportedly represents the largest U.S. patent infringement award to be affirmed on appeal. Earlier this year, McKool Smith won a $345 million verdict for Versata Software Inc. in a patent infringement trial against global software giant SAP America Inc. and its parent company SAP AG.

The firm has won more National Law Journal and VerdictSearch “Top 100 Verdicts” over the last five years than any other law firm. McKool Smith represents leading clients across a broad range of practice areas, including complex commercial litigation, intellectual property, bankruptcy, and white collar defense.
