Solar power plant PSW Group, Western Norway

Solar power plant PSW Group, Western Norway

PSW Power & Automation has installed the solar power plant on the roof of parent company PSW Group's new facilities in Mongstad, Western Norway. With its 1200 solar panels over 2500 square meters, the plant is the tenth largest in Norway, and the building's own power generation is approximately 350,000 kWh per year.

With this plant, PSW Group is self-supplied with solar energy in the new facilities, and will be able to export electricity back to the grid in the event of over-production. This is the first of PSW Group's facilities where a solar plant is installed, but not the last. When the new building at Ågotnes is finished in 2020, it will have similar facilities, in addition to an energy storage- and management system that ensures smart energy use. CEO of PSW Group, Oddbjørn Haukøy explains the investments with both profitability and a desire to take a share of the responsibility for achieving the UN's sustainability goals; “Despite the fact that there are no support schemes for this type of industrial climate measures, this is a profitable way to build. Through this solution we show that our industry is able to take steps to reduce its environmental footprint, and in the long term we want all our buildings to be self-sufficient with energy. If society is to succeed in achieving its climate goals, everyone must take their share of the responsibility".

PSW Power & Automation has been supplying energy solutions to offshore, marine and industrial/private markets for 20 years, and with solar and wind being two of the most important energy sources moving forward, the market looks bright. Through this project the company has gained valuable knowledge and experience, which is now being transferred on to new projects.
