TI Initiates the ‘Grow Green Project’

July 07, Mumbai: Tilaknagar Industries Ltd.(TI), committed to the Grow Green initiative, has carried out a massive Tree Plantation Drive across India, achieving itself a target of planting over 1 lac Multi Purpose Trees at various locations across the country.

The project was flagged off on the World Environment Day with an Environment Awareness Session in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra with a symbolic plantation of 251 saplings at the hands of Factory heads and dignitaries. The project was initiated in five Indian states including Maharashtra, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Punjab with 20,000 trees ready to plant. A sizable number of volunteers and employees were involved in the activity to plant maximum number of saplings.

As a part of the mega tree plantation drive, TI distributed over 1,00,000 forest and fruit trees in Shrirampur and Umerkhed.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Amit Dahanukar – Chairman and Managing Director, Tilaknagar Industries Ltd. says, “Our target of environmental improvement is in sync with the UNEP’s theme - Forests: Nature at Your Service. By taking this effort, we intend to spread awareness about growing and grooming trees locally by inviting people to contribute to the ‘Grow Green Project’, a massive tree plantation drive across the nation. Over 3000 employees are being involved in the exercise of preserving and protecting the environment.”

Mr. Amit Dahanukar further adds, “Selection of the right kind of native tree species is important to ensure low mortality. The ‘Grow Green Project’ executed last year has achieved a remarkable 80% survival rate. Our main focus is to expand the implementation of sustainable exercises for environmental protection with each passing year.”

TI adopts a triple bottom line (TBL) approach of economic sustainability, healthy environment and empowered community. It has initiated various CSR measures and enjoys a reputation for social welfare projects. It already provides over 25000 litres of reverse osmosis drinking water per day to 22 Wadi’s around its Shrirampur plant. Their other noted environmentally sustainable activities include: rain water harvesting, use of solar lamps for street lighting, Go Shaala to support the abandoned cows. In addition, TI provides deprived individuals with free food on a daily basis across India. It also runs a full-fledged charitable dispensary and conducts free health camps every fortnight. TI has so far adopted 51 Wadi’s in 22 Gram Panchayats around its Shrirampur plant. They successfully completed a month long ‘Grow Green Project’ in Mumbai and Shrirampur, last year too.
