Parent Choices for Struggling Teens show talks about academics being the main cause for our children being stressed out today. So much emphasis is put on success in education that our children need balance.

"Many studies show that the main cause of stress in our children is the push for academic accomplishment," stated Robin Schafer on the Internet talk Radio show Parent Choices for Struggling Teens, Monday, July 4, 2011 on LATalkRadio.com hosted by Lon Woodbury.

"Many problems of our children such as obesity, bullying, substance abuse and dropping out of school are indeed problems," said Schafer, "But they are also the symptoms of the academic pressure our children are subjected to at an ever earlier age."

"The pressure for every child to go to college, and the ultimate success being considered acceptance into top colleges such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton or Columbia, is robbing our children of the carefree childhood they need for healthy maturing," stated Schafer.

Schafer explained there is a lot parents could and should do to help their children.

"Children need a balance, which includes time for creative play, exercise, at least 8-10 hours of sleep every night, and parents who listen carefully to help the child find his/her passions," concluded Schafer, "which could go a long ways toward preventing negative behaviors like bullying, substance abuse, Obesity or dropping out of school."

Schafer was a guest of Lon Woodbury’s on his Internet Talk Radio Show "Parent Choices for Struggling Teens" on LATalkRadio, Monday July 4th assisted by Educational Consultant Larry Stednitz Ph.D. To listen to the whole discussion, go to latalkradio.com/Players/Lon-070411.shtml
