The N-664 micropositioning stage demonstrably achieves an incremental motion of 2 nm

The N-664 micropositioning stage demonstrably achieves an incremental motion of 2 nm

With the new N-664 linear positioning stage, PI (Physik Instrumente) has succeeded in developing a further groundbreaking piezo positioning system of the reference class.
A NEXACT® piezo linear drive replaces the usual stepper or DC servo motor in the N-664, thus making a position resolution of far less than a nanometer possible. Aligned to it is the new PIOne optical linear encoder with a resolution of 0.5 nm, which allows for repeatable incremental motions of 2 nm.
The N-664 is equipped with precise, loadable crossed-roller bearings made of stainless steel. They provide the micro linear positioning stage with the necessary load capacity and guiding accuracy for a dynamic operation with a maximum velocity of 10 mm/s. The PIOne linear encoder uses an interferometric measurement principle and can thereby provide very precise measurement results in the subnanometer range despite high speeds.
As a direct linear drive, the NEXACT® drive is free from precision losses and can keep the position stable even when switched off. The drive does not have to be supplied with current and does not heat up.

Well-known for the high quality of their products, PI is one of the leading players in the global market for precision positioning technology for many years. PI has been developing and manufacturing standard and OEM products with piezo or motor drives for 40 years now. In addition to its three German factories, PI has eight subsidiaries and a total of over 500 employees worldwide.

New piezo nanopositioning system: versatile, fast and compact with large clear a …
Large clear aperture, high control dynamics, fast settling times and compact dimensions: PI launches a new product line of linear nanopositioning systems for a broad range of applications. The P-630 stages are perfectly suited, e.g. for use in sensor heads or precision motion of objects in optical and tactile metrology as well as for microstructuring. With travel ranges up to 80 µm and a direct piezo actuator drive, the compact positioning
2 mm Travel Range - 20 Milliseconds Settling Time: New Objective Scanner with Pi …
New microscopy methods, such as two-photon microscopy, make it possible to record 3D stacks with up to 1 mm depth in biological samples. For this they require high-performance drives for positioning the objectives. PI (Physik Instrumente) now developed the new N-725 PIFOC® objective scanner with piezo stepping drives especially for position-ing microscopy objectives. The N-725 provides travel ranges of up to 2 mm along the optical axis. At the same time
New Version of M-663 Micropositioning Stage: Benefits of PILine® Drive Technolo …
Cost-effective with 2 µm step size. PI (Physik Instrumente) completes its product line of high-velocity M-663 micropositioning stages. The new linear stage version M-663.5U is especially suited for positioning tasks in automation where a resolution of 0.6 µm and a step size of 2 µm are sufficient. The integrated PILine® linear motor provides push forces to 5 N and a maximum velocity of up to 250 mm/s over a 18 mm
Small Size and High Resolution: New Miniature Stage is Only 24 mm Wide at a Reso …
Physik Instrumente (PI) has introduced the new LPS-24 series. At only 24 × 33 × 20 mm³, these new miniature positioning stages provide a travel range of 15 mm with nanometer-precision resolution. The LPS-24 stages fulfil important requirements for the positioning of optical or mechanical components or for the adjustment and manipulation of samples in application environments with a confined space. For the LPS-24 series, PI uses NEXACT® piezo stepping drives. These

Fast steps with nanometer precision
Piezo stepping drives from Physik Instrumente (PI) can be combined with a high-resolution linear encoder for nanometer accuracy over the complete scanning range – and are now also available for PIFOC focusing systems for microscope objectives. The new N-725 PIFOC scanner for microscope objectives with NEXACT piezo stepping drives provides travel ranges of up to one millimeter along the optical axis. At the same time the technology allows rapid positioning:
Fit for use in high vacuum
Positioning systems and linear actuators which operate on the basis of piezo ceramics are particularly suitable for use in high and ultra-high vacuum at pressures down to 10-10 hPa (mbar), because the motion is based on displacements in the crystal structure. Therefore no conventional mechanical elements such as shafts or gears are necessary and thus no maintenance or lubrication either. Neither is there a danger of an outgassing of the
Low-Cost Drive Electronics for Piezo Linear Drives
The compact NEXACT piezo stepping drives from Physik Instrumente (PI) push forward into a new performance class for linear drives: with high forces of 10 N, velocities of more than 10 mm/s, and at resolutions of a few nanometers they replace the typical stepper or DC servomotors in applications that depend on the combination of force and resolution on large travel ranges. The E-862 driver electronics is the ideal control
PI Ceramic Nominated for the Thuringian Innovation Award:New Piezo Stepping Actu …
The Thuringian Innovation Award took place for the 12th time in December 2009. The award, which has been established in 1994, has become both an impulse generator for the Free State of Thuringia and a mirror of its successful economic development. PI Ceramic from Lederhose was nominated out of more than 100 candidates in the categorie "Industry & Material" for their piezo stepping drive of the Nexact series. With this
Alternative Drives: PiezoWalk® Linear Actuators
The N-380 series of linear actuators from Physik Instrumente (PI) is venturing into a new performance class for linear drives, providing high forces to 10 N and speeds of approx. 10 mm/s at resolutions of 20 nanometers (closed-loop). A NEXACT® piezo walking drive replaces conventional stepper-motors or DC servo-motors providing several advantages. Due to the direct linear drive, there is no loss of precision as a result of converting rotational to
