Jim and Tina Darling
Opening Reception: Friday, June 24th, 2011 from 7-10pm
On View: June 24th - July 23rd 2011
If home truly is where the heart is, then this June, Jim and Tina Darling will be pouring their hearts into the WWA gallery as it becomes the home of their new exhibition Inside Out. The Darlings' new series of works celebrates what makes a home while also examining the different places in which we choose to live, and the types of lives we lead within them.
The Darlings view the Home as a place for people to retreat to do what they love: to relax, to be creative, to cultivate the soul and to truly be themselves and their work resonates with a warmth and a spirit that is the true embodiment of home. For Inside Out, Jim Darling has constructed semi-sculptural works on wood that take an outside look at the different types of buildings and areas that come to be known as home. Meanwhile, Tina Darling uses her intricate ink and watercolor works to peer inside the buildings at the people who actually turn them into homes.
Open to the public, the Inside Out gallery reception is from 7 - 10pm on Friday, June 24th. The exhibition will run until July 23rd, 2011.
Jim Darling
Jim was born and raised in the sprawling suburbs of Dallas, Texas. As a young man, Jim was often in trouble, which led to numerous groundings and detentions, the isolated hours of which proved beneficial in sprouting daydreams and a love for drawing and creating.
Jim's work is frequently sculptural in nature, often composed of found wood layered and painted with an illustrative sensibility. There is always a strong sense of play mixed with a delicate grittiness in Jim's work that is at once serious and humorous.
Jim received his BFA from Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design.
Tina Darling
Tina was born and raised in Denver, Colorado and has always been an artist. Not long ago she was traveling the country with Jim, living the gypsy life and creating her artwork as they went.
Having recently started a family, she now draws into the early hours of the morning creating detailed, woven line work, patterns, and portraits. Intricate images and vibrant colors are partnered together to create a quiet, expressive energy, inspired by the natural world and the human experience.
Both Tina and Jim Darling live and work in Los Angeles.
Hours: Tuesday to Saturday 11-5pm

Jim Lee - easy is hard
Everyday life objects that are familiar to the viewer compose Jim Lee’s sculptures, paintings and installations. As they give off the aura of “the found”, they inspire connotations linked to Arte Povera. Their basic structure is preserved, but is getting recomposed in a certain manner. Those workings could be reduced to fundamental terms as Colour, Form, Line and Shape but this statement would not cope with the sublime play of…
