Save Water Campaign by Artist Wajid Khan

Save Water Campaign by Artist Wajid Khan

Isn’t it strange that how unapologetically we cage birds just because we are fascinated by the baseless idea of enhancing our surroundings? Yes, baseless because just for some personal motives, snatching someone’s freedom is not at all judicious. None of us ever gave a thought, what about those young creatures’ surroundings! Thank God, an Indore-based artist Wajid Khan has brought this underrated issue to limelight on the World Environment Day. Yes, more than the subject of freedom, Wajid connects this scenario to the wellbeing and balance of the ecosystem. As per the article published in Times of India, Wajid Khan has pioneered a campaign of ‘save bird, save world’. And as always, his creative ideas catch public attention; this time too, he has successfully carved out his spoon art to spread the noble message. Wajid Khan has created 200 artificial sparrows by utilizing his innovative spoon crafting skills which he has chosen to fix on trees at different places. The abstract behind choosing trees to spread this message was to highlight the juxtaposition of the absence of real birds in woods and their escalating numbers at homes. Our ecosystem is being designed in a way so that birds can dwell in woods and fulfill their purpose to serve the Mother Nature. By caging these birds, we are interfering with the balance of nature firstly, by refraining the contact of these creatures from their normal habitat and secondly, by creating a major gap in the food chain. It is sad that today, each and every one of us complains about the boiling temperature but nobody wants to accept that none other than us have been the real culprit behind this epidemic situation. Wajid Khan expresses his discontent that if the same carelessness towards these creatures continues; the day is not so far when we will crave for every single straw of grain!
Wajid strongly believes that whatever environmental tragedies we face today is solely the repercussion of human follies. He has always come forward as the flag bearer of noble causes whether it was the #INDORE project led by him as an endeavor to conserve Khan River of Indore or the free skill development classes to slum area kids. This artificial sparrow artwork is truly a phenomenal masterpiece created by Mr. Wajid. The more engrossing are the ‘behind the scenes’ for making this artifact as it was a pure result of his appeal to local restaurants that encouraged them to donate forks and spoons for its accomplishment. He is a true nature lover who noticed that birds have suddenly extinct from their natural habitat which in itself is an alarming situation for the flora and fauna of the city. He further added that birds are the primary carrier of the seed dispersal process which again is a natural yet essential phenomenon. Now, that the birds are vanishing from the fields; it will be catastrophic for the transporting of grains and crops. This is the prime reason why along with the model of the artificial sparrow, Wajid has added a message as- “how well you feed them with nuts and nourishment; but then if you are such a great human, why don’t you just liberate them!” These lines expose the bitter reality that we love caging these free creatures and then publicize how much we care for their life. But on contrary to this, we forget the modern infra and buildings are not at all designed for their survival. The woods and the lap of Mother Nature are apt and moreover, the best dwelling for their healthy survival. And therefore, he has added restaurants as well in the list of campaigning areas apart from trees to extensively spread this message as far as possible. He requests people to stop exploiting ecosystem as once the roles exchanged, (history has been the proof) it would be impossible to control the rage of nature!
