Press release from: Carroll, Burdick & McDonough

/ PR Agency: Blattel Communications
Laurie J. Hepler, a partner at Carroll, Burdick & McDonough LLP and chair of the firm’s Appellate Practice Group, was admitted to the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers (CAAL) at the organization’s annual meeting.

CAAL has fewer than 100 members statewide. Its membership committee rigorously scrutinizes applicants’ skill in advocacy before the appellate courts. Members must have a minimum of 10 years of practice, and must have served as lead counsel in at least 25 appeals and argued at least 15 appeals or writs. The committee must also be persuaded of an applicant’s professional reputation, good character, and ongoing commitment to quality appellate practice.

“We are extremely proud that Laurie was recognized for her long record of appellate achievements. Her strategic approach and advocacy skills are an outstanding benefit to our clients,” said Vicki Freimann, the firm’s managing partner.

Hepler is certified as a specialist in appellate law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization and has secured several judgments herself as lead trial counsel. She and her colleagues regularly brief and argue civil appeals and petitions for extraordinary relief in appellate courts throughout the state and the country. At the trial level, CBM’s Appellate Practice Group prepares and argues high-stakes motions and partners with trial counsel on strategies to best position the case for appeal.

She earned her J.D. from of the University of California Los Angeles School of Law (1992) and her B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania (1988).
