In addition, real-time data from smart street lighting system also helps in monitoring various parameters such as temperature, current, light, voltage, etc., to rapidly respond to the outages and other system issues. The study also estimates, renewable energy to gain popularity as the energy source for smart street lighting.

With governments across countries and businesses realizing the need to smart LED street lighting to reduce energy consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emission has led to the increasing investment in smart street lights. According to a new study, authorities across developed nations such as North America and Europe are increasingly investing in smart LED lighting system as an addition to the step towards smart cities. Moreover, longevity, cost effective in the long run, and eco-friendly are some of the important benefits offered by smart street lighting, resulting in increasing adoption.
In recent years, many smart street lighting manufacturers have entered into a partnership with governments across various countries in order to deploy a smart street lighting system on a large scale. For instance, in 2018, Telensa was selected by the Hong Kong Highways Department to deploy smart street lighting system as the part of the pilot program led by South King-Kum Shing JV to replace 600 street lights with wireless LED lights. Recently, the company has also been selected by the City of Darwin for the smart street lighting project.

According to the latest study, smart street lighting market is expected to bring in nearly US$ 4,300 million by the end of 2026. Despite offering multiple benefits leading to the wide adoption of smart street lighting, challenges still prevail in the market such as cities with a tight spending budget, streetlight ownership models, poor connectivity, and data security are some of the barriers in adoption of smart street lighting systems.
