Intelligent Ozone Generators: Providing Remote Monitoring and Reducing Response Time during Emergency

In order to improve the safety and shelf-life of generators, and meeting the need for service before anything occurs, remote monitoring has become necessary for operators to ensure timely maintenance and respond immediately during an emergency situation or during downtime. This has led to the integration of sensors in the ozone generators to provide better connectivity and offer remote monitoring.

Manufacturers are also developing system controllers to monitor and control more than one ozone generator along with the automatic adjustment of ozone levels, thereby saving energy and keeping the running cost of the ozone system low. Meanwhile, new devices for ozone monitoring and control and are being designed in such a way to offer high accuracy along with easy to install, setup, and operate. These devices warn the operator when the ozone generator fails to maintain desired level of ozone.

Sensors to Monitor and Control Exceeding Ozone Concentration in Air
Increasing emission of greenhouse gases has increased pollution levels, this is resulting in the growing demand for air purification systems, this, in turn, has fueled the demand for ozone generators, as ozone is one of the strongest oxidizing agents with the ability to reduce harmful bacteria and pollutants.
Although ozone is harmless at low concentration, at high concentration levels, ozone can become toxic, thereby, impacting the health on exposure. With growing concerns regarding harmful effects of high concentration of ozone in the air, sensors are being installed in ozone generators indicating exceeding ozone level. Some of the sensors are also developed with the ability to turn-off the ozone production in case of high concentration.

Instantly oxidizing the chemical pollutants and keeping the indoor air free of chemicals has led to the increasing use of ozone generators as indoor air cleaners. However, only at low concentration, ozone work as potent disinfectant offering sweet and pleasant odor. Hence, devices, sensors, and ozone analyzers are being developed to be used with ozone generators to measure the level of ozone and warn the operator when it reaches high concentration causing harmful health consequences. Some of these sensors also show the level of ozone in the indoor area or room which can be a reliable indicator of the air quality and ventilation rate.

Portable ozone monitors are also being developed in order to display ozone concentration. However, with the increasing use of smartphones, the sensors and technologies are being developed that can be connected to smartphones and offer remote monitoring, and warns operator on the smartphone when ozone concentration exceeds the set limit. Moreover, in order to ensure system safety and reduce maintenance cost, ozone generators are being integrated with automatic alarm and more safety functions depending on various hazardous conditions, thereby, ensuring all-round protection during operation.
